i just bought the sony ericsson W600 and it's arriving tomorrow. i didn't know how many MP cameraphones / MP3 player phones there were out there. can someone run down the big differences between these two phones? i hear that the 6682 plays MP3s as well.

and i am wondering about stats here, not looks. please no "nokias suck" or "sony ericsson's designs are so 5 months ago".

thanks.

Here's a comparison of the two from Phone Scoop.

No expandable memory for S.E. This is a big oversight IMO, since this is supposed to be a "Walkman phone".

wow, cool! thank you! i should have known to check phonescoop!

looks like the big difference is style, FM radio and expandable memory. i wish the SE had a memory slot, but i don't load a ton of MP3s on my current MP3 player anyhow.

again, thanks for the link. very helpful. i've always liked nokia's interface / OS, but liked the style of SEs better. i guess i like SE's interface, too.

The Nokia 6682 smokes the W600i. Its plain and simple the Nokia is symbian(you can apps like a computer) The w600i lacks UIQ(similar to symbian) Color screen is bigger and better-Video is full screen even when recording. Go Nokia and you won't be disappointed. I carried the S710a, and was bored. With the Nokia being symbian, the possibilites are endless. The UI is faster due to a faster processor. Trust me stick with the 6682.

can't really stick to a phone i don't own. i ordered the W600 a few days ago and i'll have it tomorrow.

i wish there was a way to play around with these phones for a few days to see which ones i like. unfortunately, to do that, i'd have to buy them all.

bleh..... I've owned four Symbian phones in my lifetime (3600, 6620, 7610 and the 6682) and they were all nearly identical in features. yes, thats right. the 6682 isnt much more than my crusty old 3600, but with a better camera. big deal......

one thing I didnt like with the Symbian phones is the fact that they are much like an MS Windows setup. the more and more apps you put on it, the better the chances are for the phone to either start acting up or the phone's overall operating speed between menus and so on goes down the toilet because the phone's RAM can only do so much before it starts taking a dump (speed wise).

at least the W600 doesnt have that problem and it whizzes through its menus quite easily. thats one thing that I couldnt stand about any of my Symbian phones. and also, I love the FM tuner on my W600 which is also pretty darn nice.

I dont know. I guess I just got burned out on the whole Symbian thing after I sold my 6620 for which I was expecting something very new and improved on the next S60 phone which at the time would have been the 7610. again, it was just like my 6620 and it was just like my 3600. just different housings and a slightly better gamera rating. again, big deal.

i haven't messed with a nokia interface since my 3595 and i've never owned a symbian phone. in fact, i have no idea what that is! i'd like to play around with the 6682, i just don't want to drop $400 to do so!

can someone explain to me what a symbian phone is? is it the same thing as "S series" phones? what's that all about?

i liked the nokia interface, back in the day, but their phone designs left something to be desired.

"Symbian" is an operating system for cell phones. kind of like what Windows XP is for computers. same principle. load more and more junk on the operating system and sooner or later something gets either messed up and or something starts to get clogged up and you have to reformat to get everything up to speed again. same thing with a Symbian phone. you have to do a hard reset which brings everything back to day one. unfortunately it also erases anything that you might have loaded application wise.

yes and no. there are series 40 and series 60 (AKA S40 and S60) phones. the 6230 was a S40 phone which would explain why its menu navigation was speedy just because it normally couldnt get all gummed up like a S60 (AKA Symbian) phone can at times. some people might frown on a S40 because it doesnt have a gazzilion and one different apps that can be loaded on it like you can with a S60. (that to me is actually a good thing. it means less things can go wrong down the road.)

hopefully you can make sense of all this.

i can, thank you! i think i will be more than happy with the SE W600. i've tried just about all the phone brands and i've always liked the styling of the SEs.

however, i learned of yet another phone that's caught my eye: the samsung T809. yummies. the W600 will have to keep me happy for at least 6 mos. though, for as much as i've spent on it.

I think you will too.

S60 phones are okay, but it doesnt take too long for the "ooh-la-la" factor to wear off. then all you have is a modern day version of the 3600 or the 6620, but of course with a much bigger hole in your wallet.
