This is nothing new. However its a beta ROM and not an offical ROM. Its a hacked one that was demonstrated on MPx 200's at some avent...I can't remember which one it was. Why would you even want a MPx 200 ROM with WM5 when you don't even have a MPx 200?

i would buy one for it (i had it three times)

i didnt know it existed, i thought it was big news. Sorry

Omega, I don't think this is the original beta that was circulating on the net a few months back. If the screenshots are to be believed, this is an actual after-release version of WM5, and not the beta Windows Mobile Magneto beta (all the after-release ROM's of WM5 actually name themselves Windows Mobile 5 where the betas said Magneto or Windows Mobile 2005).

I'd totally load up my old MPx200 with this if I didn't think it would tank the battery and the program memory.

I don't know. I do know there is no offical release so its either the same beta ROM or someone hacked a smartphone image of WM5 and made a ROM...but that seems unlikley. But who knows.

This is probably good only for curiousity's sake since with only 16MB of RAM, it can't be running very well at all. WM2003 seems to be about the latest OS that is practical on the MPx200, and although it's a hacked version, I think it runs fine even though the MPx200 was never intended to run WM2003 since it has too little RAM and ROM space. WM5 is just too much of a stretch for the MPx200 and I can't imagine a handset running it is really useful for much.

I have two old 200's that I don't use anymore. I've flashed them with many many diff images, so I'm willing to risk it. Send the ROM to me, and I'll load it up and share pictures and results with the group. :-)

If memory serves, the 2 development platforms for WM5 were the Audiovox SMT5600 and the MPX200. So, such a ROM image floating around is entirely plausible.

I have an MPx200 that is just sitting here. It has Win Mob 2003 Id love to give it a roll. May be an interesting toy if it pans out. Please PM me and lets check this puppy out.

As posted here, vbguru613 said he has the Windows Mobile 5 ROM for the Motorola mpx200. Someone contact him and get the ROM image to test out.

I've PMed him and asked which version he has. Let's see if his ROM is indeed the "unofficially released" version.

I have PM'd him a dozen times, and he said he would upload it, but never has after repeat requests and PM's. Has anyone been able to get this ROM from VBGuru, or anyone else? He may have thought he had it, but then found he hasn't, as I haven't heard from anyone saying they received it from him. Has anyone? I seem to doubt it.

I think VB Guru has the same ROm that is on surrealnetworks.

The guy on ebay does have a working WM5 ROM and has posted it for purchase ($25) on another forum. I am just waiting for someone to post how it is before wasting $25 on an old phone.

Another thread here on hofo has more information on it

This is a typical example of "Never say 'never'". I have wm5 installed on my mpx200 and have 12mb prog mem free and practically unlimited storage mem, much more memory than I have on the mpx220. Before the upgrade, I had less than 1mb program mem and 2mb storage mem. Perhaps this is one of the greatest miracles of the century. Except for the slower processor, my mpx200 is much better device than my mpx220 which I have relegated to 2nd position now. Whatever they did is certainly the way to go as far as smartphone memory management is oncerned.

install the ROM, as there is no need to have two threads about the same topic.
