Hey Guys,

For some very odd reason my keypad on my E398 is not working anymore. All that i can do to the phone is turn it on and off (only button working). I have tried to flash it twice, to Bodyguard MP and the epinter MP. both with no luck....

Last time i was using it i was writing a message and was in my pocket the whole time last night while i was in a club.. I havent dropped it or anything lately

Need to get it up ASAP

Thank you

Try restoring your original " E398 " back-up. If you have it.

no i dnt have a copy of it Know of a place i can obtain a copy?

No, you should've done that BEFORE you flashed.

If you hold down * and # while pressing the power button to turn it on, does it go to the bootloader screen?

but really, you should've been smart to back it up AND post in the PROPER forums, ie Moto Modding forums. You know the mods here go thru all these damned posts and go thru the trouble for people like you who can't read and post in the wrong forum.

No booting up into bootloader mode will not work..

i had the same problem too... just take your battery out for about 10 minutes. and then place it back again... let me know if it works...

Nope sorry dude no luck

strange... it worked for me.... just search the forum about keypad problem...

you can try the force boot method... you basically short a couple of pins out on the bottom of the phone while inserting the battery.. muncheno has a video of it in one of the links in his signature if you find one of this posts..

Shortening the pins does work on my phone. but the keypad still doesnt work

I've also tried the keyfix flex, yet nothing happens..

did you ever resolve this? i have a handset with the same issue here... i would use the flex, but i wasn't sure it would work with a e398

The exact same thing happened to my e398 just over a week ago - here is how i fixed it..

I just left it turned on sitting in my bedroom for a few days without using it.. (as i couldn't due to no buttons working apart from on/off) After a while the low battery beep started to annoy me so I picked it up to turn it off and to my great suprise all of the buttons work perfectly again.

So if you can't find a remedy to fix your problem I suggest just leaving it be for a few days and see if it fixes itself.
I know it is not really useful information to tell you but it might give you some hope as perhaps the same thing might happen with your phone.

@hallph

Perhaps that's just pure luck So which means there's no logical explaination for this yet?

Posted by: abz0ract

this phone has been in my draw for months... problem certainly never fixed itself sadly

Posted by: pcatomic

my phone has done the same thing , last nite i had the fone in my pocket at a club and all of a sudden the buttons dont work except for the hangup/power on/off button. Im guessing condensation may have been a problem with the phone being in my pocket. Im yet to find out, i will try the above methods and hopefully i can get my phone working again.

ive also flashed my phone twice..

eyes only pack

and

shoeys pack

Im from australia as well the coincidence.

what flash are u running?

Posted by: abz0ract

i tried using the eyes only v398 pack (re-flash) after it first happened... and it didn't fix it... i haven't bothered trying anything else yet...

I want to know more about this "keypad flex"

Posted by: pcatomic

same.. any resolutions yet guys?

Posted by: abz0ract

I eventually gave up on this one... phone is still in my draw tho, so perhaps i'll pull it out and give it another go soon

i have just tried to use the v398 MP that i found somewhere i forgot and it did not work.
i have the exact same problem.only button that works is the on/off button.
i am going to try to open it up ( i got some special screwdrivers at work) and see if anything happens if i clean it up.

Do not flash your phones anymore. It is a hardware defective problem. Please send your phones to Motorola authorized service centers to fix it. Good Luck!

how much does it cost to put a new keypad for e398 fone

Posted by: Eclipse398

i changed my e398 keypad but still da same.
da buttons not working are 2 4 6 8 9 menu n right soft key...
tried keypad flex, no help.

hmmm so nobody have repaired this phone yet? i have 2 e398 and this happened to the same phone. i opened it and i gues its not a hardware problem....

Posted by: zephster

I have this problem now, I took it to a shop and they said it was 99% software related.
Still haven't fixed it. Tried everything.
Everything.
