Do we need to review all the mobiles that manufacturer reps have said were coming over the last 12 months? |

Cingular Unveils Samsung ZX10 UMTS Phone Fri Jan 06, 2006 12:00 pm Samsung and Cingular Wireless today announced the upcoming market availability of the Samsung zx10, the first 3G/Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) phone in North America. UMTS enables data connections similar to broadband speeds, making it possible for consumers using the Samsung zx10 via Cingular Wireless service to watch streaming video, download games and access email faster than ever before. The zx10's integrated multimedia features, including video streaming/audio streaming and 1.3 megapixel camera, make the most of the phone's high-speed UMTS technology. When downloading content, the zx10 takes approximately 40 seconds to download a 1MB file, at speeds ranging from 220 to 320 kbps. With the recent announcement of Cingular Video, an on-demand streaming video service that delivers fast, personalized access to a variety of entertainment and information services, consumers using the zx10 will be able to quickly access exclusive content, including video clips, ringtones and 3D games. Using the phone's internal 50MB of shared memory and microSD memory card slot, consumers can store volumes of digital entertainment to access anytime, anyplace. "Samsung has incorporated cutting-edge UMTS technology into its zx10 giving consumers high-speed connectivity to access their favorite music and video content," said Peter Skarzynski, senior vice president, Samsung. "This device is another example of Samsung's leadership in mobile entertainment. We're making audio and video on demand a reality." The zx10's GSM quad-band support also gives consumers one communication device while traveling around the world where GSM networks are supported, and a speakerphone allowing for easy, hands-free conversations. Key features of the zx10 include: - Quad-Band: GSM 1900/1800/900/850 MHz; Dual-Band: 1900/850 UMTS - 1.3-Megapixel Camera with 2X Digital Zoom, Multi-Shot, Self Timer, Brightness Adjustment - Video Streaming and Audio Streaming to Record Up to Five Minutes of Audio, Up to One Hour of Video - Media Player (MPEG4, RealOne, H.263, MP3, AAC) - Multimedia Memory: 50 MB Shared for MP3 Player and Camera; MicroSD Memory Card Slot (card sold separately) - Wireless Internet Support for MediaNet 3.0 - Displays: Internal: 262K-Color, TFT, 172x220 Pixel; External: B&W, 96x96 Pixel - Java Support for Application and Games Download - Messaging Services: SMS, MMS, AOL, ICQ, Yahoo! Instant Messaging - Speakerphone - MP3 Music Tones/64 Note Polyphonic Music Tones - Integrated games - T9 Easy Text Input - Personal Organizer, Calendar, Calculator, To-Do List, Currency Converter, Alarm Clock, World Time |

and 3g audio isn't available in all markets unless you've put a BSC onto the 3g network which to my knowledge hasn't happened yet. even the old at&t nortel 3g did not do voice. i'm a switch tech for cingular in arizona. i'm responsible for all gsm and umts for the state. we are not putting voice on 3g until middle of the year. its currently going to lucent 5ess and nortel r4 switches. |

And does it still sound good with a low(er) signal? 2) Build Since this is a clamshell/folder, how is the hinge? Any wobble when open/closed? Do the two halves line up properly when shut? Any squeeks and creaks? 3) T9 Predictive Text I only ask this on Samsungs only: Does the T9 system permit the addition of new words, and does it actually REMEMBER them the next time around? You could try my "Tanya Test". Most Samsungs stumble on the name Tanya and give you "Vanc" at best. Manually enter in "Tanya" and start from scratch. Does the ZX10 remember Tanya, or do you get something like "Vanc" again? 4) Keypad Nearly all Samsung keypads are consistently clicky and illuminated evenly. That is, except the lower-end SGH-x497, which had this grippy, rubbery keypad which also crackled (sounds sticky) at times, as if someone spilled a soda on the phone. How's the ZX10's keys? 5) Headset What kind of headset jack does this have? The "normal" 2.5mm round one (albeing probably Samsung proprietary) or the square/flat one? 6) Misc. * I notice some kind of LED/flash assist light on the front. Is there an LED blinky like most Samsungs (RF present, message waiting)? * Do incoming message alert tones have nag alerts (repeat/vibrate every 2 mins)? Can you use your own ringers for messages, or are you stuck with the factory ones? I've been using my Nokia 8890 again lately, and I'm finding it hard to plunk down the $$ for something new... |

do i need to go into details about it, or do you understand that its a low end phone and doesn't compete with even the razr as far as quality goes? even the razr shows caller ID on the external screen. |
