Hey there,
Well im looking at getting a smart phone.. I was going to try the 6682 but i am tired of waiting for it to come back out. Where i work, our cingular rep actually has the 910a and i have played with it quite a bit and i like the way it looks and feels. I just need to know if it can do some of the things:

-I am in school... and the ability to have MS Word/Powerpoint/Excel would be great

-Can i sync it with my outlook for my calendar. For instance, I have everything planned like: Homework due dates, Exam Dates, Class Schedule, Work Schedule, Addresses, and phone numbers... Can it do this?

-Also can it have an active display (i think thats what its called). Like where it can list all the tasks for the day or next day?

-Can i access or have my school e-mail forwarded to with a G-Mail account or something of that sort?

-Are there alot of 3rd party applications available for this OS?

-What is the benefit of going with this phone over the treo and Palm OS? same question with WM5?

Thanks!

Word,Outlook and excel included in phone.
Yes it can sync with outlook
Yes it has active display, try Sony Ericsson Desktop application from SE "Free"
Yes the built in application can receive, get email from pop3. I don't think gmail will work.
Try Handango or My Symbian for applications. Most you can try before buying.
Benefit over Treo, Well the 910 works, for one. UIQ is multitasking palm is not.
Palm is dying isn't it?
You'll like it, Great phone and excellent PDA
enjoy

I've fiddled with the Treo 650 in person, and I liked how snappy feeling the OS was. I would never get one, mind you, because I have a low tolerance for freezes, lockups, restarts, etc.

It's my impression that the p910a is a more sluggish, isn't it?

see i have heard that about the treo locking up and what not. I played with 910a and it didnt seem sluggish at all. As far as internet, does it have edge and capable of full html browsing? My cing rep is having trouble using the internet on his phone...

Well, no EDGE. Just GPRS.

As for browsing, I've heard there are better browsers (opera?) that the UIQ crowd here use.

Why would your rep have trouble using the internet on this phone?

I'm very glad to hear you thought the p910a wasn't sluggish. I've heard that a free app named "Sman" goes a long way in completely shutting down apps, conserving battery life and freeing up memory- and I hope, keeping the p910a running speedily.

Mademan118, I'm also pondering the purchase of a p910a as well. Unfortunately for me, I've been on the fence for a year and a half!

see the thing is, i just entered college. Its similar to highschool but i want to be more organized. I work full-time and go to school full-time, and if i was able to see what time i had free to study and work and workout and what not, that would be great. I just want to manage my life more efficently so i can get more done in a day then it takes me now. Also i have a question, would i be able to manage my finances on the phone also? Like input purchases made form my check card and what not?

also, how easy is it to update the firmware on the phone? And does anyone have this phjone working on cingulars network? How is your RF? And your internet? Does it work properly? Also i have considered WM5 phones, but i like love the look of the p910a..

does anyone know if this is the phone in the movie 'Hitched' that will smith is using?

Also how is the SMS with the small keyboard on in the inside, or do you mainly use the keyboard on the outside?

sorry about all the questions, but i like to do my research before i buy...

Besides the P990 which i think looks horrible, is there anything else that i can expect to see in the market. From what i gather, it seems SE puts out these phones and lets them sit on the market for awhile before they upgrade them.. and even after they put out new-models there isnt much of a difference between the two.

I like everything about this phone and have since about 6 months ago. But I just cannot get myself to go with another smartphone that does not use some kind of high speed access, whether it be EDGE, or preferably EVDO or UMTS. So I have ruled this one out. I'm going to most likely get the new Treo 700w when it comes out in a few weeks.

My general feeling is that without some sort of high speed access, having a HTML browser becomes rather useless as it takes way too long to load web pages. I lived with a Sidekick for a while, and then a Blackberry, and there is no fun in mobile browsing when it takes 90 seconds for a web page to load. So the end result is that I found myself only using "mobile web pages", i.e. ones that were designed for PDA size screens. And if I'm going to only access those kinds of pages, I might as well just have a regular phone with a wap browser.

To update firmware is a little finicky first time but if u follow directions it is fairly easy
I would say Treo is a little snappier but can't do several things at same time, ie talk on phone and listen to music.
910 uses Gprs not edge. I don't browse just use for emails and it works good. I use profimail. I understand Opera is the browser of choice.
I use Decuma alphabetic for handwriting instead of keyboard.
Why don't u visit Handango where u will get a feel for applications available.

i think mainly i would use it for e-mail and some web browsing. Mainly like espn, howardforums, supraforums, my schools webpage such as e-mail and D2L(our messageboard for school) and googling stuff. I dont mind using WAP Browsers also. Not anything major. I used to surf on my 6230, would i notice a difference in speed since that is a class 10 edge phone on my 6230? I would wait for 990, but i just dont want to spend 800$ on a phone when it comes out for a camera i wouldnt use and i wouldnt use wifi. I have a lap-top, this phone would be when i wouldnt have the laptop with me, and i dont mind waiting a little longer on the phone.

also, when it comes with word, excel, and powerpoint.. is that the ability to read the files or read and create new files?
