V360: mma_ucp format change confirmed

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

max.wiz just got back to me (the guy who writes P2KMenuEditor), I had sent him my mma_* files to debug. He says:

Quote:
Thank you for this important information (and mma_ucp)!!
P2KME crashes cos mma_ucp has NEW internal structure (menu item record
length was 16h... now it 24h bytes long).
I'll write new version with support "new length" menus... but later (I
lost sources, so... I rewrite program from start )

Thank you much
WBR, max.wiz

FYI only to all.

Excellent - if I'm not mistaken (as is often the case), the V557 uses the same layout.

Let me know if he'd like to compare my files as well.

Hell, here they are anyway: http://www.mcmeen.net/V557_mma_files.zip

P2KMenuEditor didn't work quite right with the V330 menu's either. The resulting mma_ucp file was much smaller after a run through P2KMenuEditor.

Thanks to all for new mma_ucp's !!!

Now, new mma_ucp's used in these phones:
IMHO, this list isn't full

max.wiz -

No, it probably isn't a complete list, but I'd venture to say that it's probably the way these files will look from now on. At least until they come up with yet another format.

Bummer about the source code, BTW. I've been there before and it sucks. But the rewrite is almost always so much better than the original version.

Thanks for all your hard work!

Quick question for all -- since we'll probably be doing a little beta testing for max.wiz on our menus, let's say something goes wrong. I know that when you have a corrupt mma_ucp it can cause the phone not to turn on.

Is there a way to master clear/reset a Moto, like from the bootloader? or maybe some tool from MSS suite? If we have a corrupt mma_ucp, how can we trigger a restore of the backup mma_dcp?

Since there's no real monster pack (T-Mobile) floating around yet to do an emergency reflash, I'd like to know how to recover...

I've read somewhere here before that "later" Motos (I think V551 timeframe?) can self correct and kinda hobble along until you get the backup restored, whereas something like a V400 will be hosed. I'll see if I can turn up the thread - it's been a while...

In my V300/V600 - if mma_ucp is corrupt (unsupported menu items, wrong file data, etc), then phone use mma_dcp. If mma_dcp not exists or corrupt also then phone reset both mma_ucp & mma_dcp to "default" (from flash???).
Under V635 not tested...

That's what I was thinking. I thought this applied to the V551 as well,

Tried searching but could only come up with the first part of max.wiz's statement.

I just got done "removing" the vestiges of the Ticker on my V557

I assigned a shortcut (menu+1) to the Ticker menu then changed the left softkey to Message like it is on the V551. I changed the right softkey to Video Camera.

As I was doing this, I started wondering if maybe the new "dynamic" file has something to do with on-the-fly changes to softkeys, arrow keys and menu order? Perhaps max.wiz won't have to bother with that file at all...

Hi. I'm a lurker around here.

I just got a new T-Mobile USA V195. It appears to use this same new "dynamic" menu format. Attached are the default mma_ucp, mma_dcp, and mma_dyn_index files for debugging purposes.

By the way, does anyone know of a good bit-by-bit breakdown of the mma format? I searched around and I can't find a thing. Needless to say, it doesn't have to cover the new dynamic mma format... I'm just looking for something I can keep in mind as I am trying to develop a MMA parser/editor of my own which would support this new format.

So - max.wiz, please add the V195 to the list of new-format phones.

Erik
