I just got a new cingular branded s66 in the mail it has the v34 firmware and i want to do the following things to it after researching.
-Upgrade the firmware to the best running version
-Get rid of the cingular branding in the firmware and retain all or as many setting s as possible
I have read alot into it but i was hoping someone could piece it all together in a step by step for me!
i have a usb data cable for the phone. the phone has been untouched so nothing has been updated or messed up.
Thanks for all the help you can provide me with i really appriciate it!

Perhaps this thread is what you seek.

i have gone through the entire thread and i have already read it before i posted this i am really looking for the latest winshup firmware to use with my converted s65 so that i can update it to official s65 firmware i also need to know if by doing this it will eliminate the cingularized **** thanks

The two links that have been posted should be enough. Although I don't remember if upgrading the firmware totally removed the cingular branding or not (my data cable stopped working after the update so I had to revert until I got a better data cable). Try it and let us know.

The links provided in the thread are either german or dont work and the german one requires you to become a member and i cant read german. When i translated it it wouldent let me sign up and i dont think it even works. i am looking for the best firmware to put on my phone but i dont want to go through with it until im positive of what i am doing. I am thinking that converting it to s65 firmware is the best thing to do but i want to know how much functionality that takes away from the s66 and if it decingularizes it becuase right now its ugly and slow. Thanks for anyones help in advance

Do a search. There is another thread on converting your s66 to s65. That is what everyone else is using. There aren't any english sites on how to do it. If you aren't comfortable with it I would probably just get the latest s66 firmware from siemens's site and leave it at that.
If you can't figure out how to register, try this link. http:///forum.gsmhosting.com is a good site to research.
I just did the update again and it got rid of some cingular stuff but other stuff you might need to remove manually.

im alright with foriegn sites i just dont want to update the firmware and find out its german language what kind of stuff do you remove manually once again thanks for all your help

The firmware on that site has 2 or 3 languages, but defaults to English, at least when I update it on my phone. I think almost all Siemens firmwares include at least English.
Some stuff that the update doesn't remove is the startup / shutdown animations, and the cingular wallpapers and default sounds. All this can be changed manually but I am trying to find the files I need to do it. No luck so far. Also you will need to download a new menu icon pack (see the other mentioned thread) so your menus will work, since the cingular branded menus are removed with the new firmware.

Thanks for all your help so far i download the 58CZ on the site using info from the thread you gave me and i think i can manage changing the icons on the phone im hoping that i can get the other stuff removed to i am wondering though if i update with this s65 firmware will it remove functionality with cingular things like txt msging and the media mall so on and will the phone have all the same functionality.
Posted by: OzzieGT
I don't know...text messaging should be there since it's a standard feature. I am not sure about the media mall, since I am not a Cingular customer. I think a lot of people who do the modification aren't cingular customers and just want their phone to be like an s65. You might want to try getting the latest s66 firmware from Siemens's site before you try the s65 software, that might be good enough for you.

All firmware versions include at least North American English. Check www.S65.info for icons. No functionality will be removed; in fact, more things will be unlocked without changing any of your settings (it'll delete your bookmarks, though). All Cingular features and sites will continue to work without issue. Look for OD.exe to unlock the file system and modify the startup/shutdown sounds and animations, among everything else. I'll try to get a link up if you can find it. HTH.

Thanks so much for answering all my questions sorry i am so thick i just like to make sure i know what i am doing before i attempt it in the dark. When I read these forums i got a very good idea about it but i dident want to jump to conclusions

You will lose your phone book, so I would make sure you use the Siemens MPM to back it up. And for some reason it doesn't remember other little things like ringer volume and stuff even when you back it up with MPM.

Really? All my stuff only changed after the initial upgrade (I went from FW34 to 43 to 58). My settings mainly stayed the same, though. Only minor things I can't even remember changed. And my phone book stayed perfectly intact, only it asked if I wanted to copy all my numbers to the SIM card on first startup.

Just to make sure i dont have to go from 34 to 43 i can go straight from 34 to Winshup 58CZ and just to make sure thats the right firmware

Really? Hmm maybe I am wrong then. I didn't keep the firmware for more than an hour or two because it wouldn't recognize my generic cable. But I do remember losing some ringer and screensaver settings when I switched back.
Yes you can go straight to 58cz, it overwrites the whole thing, it's not an "upgrade" tyep thing. One thing I would do is make sure you back up your full flash with x65flasher, so you can always restore the old firmware for whatever reason. I am very glad I did this for the reason mentioned above. It's mentioned in the upgrade threads on this board but I thought I would mention it again.

OK MUCH TO ASK:
heres my progress i got my usb cable for the s66 and i have tryed using the java app on my phone to get x65flasher to work and the java app runs sucsessfully but when i open up x65 and click connect its never sucsessful so i tryed to put the ESN key into the config file myself but when i do that it just keeps starting and shuting my phone down. I have also tryed to update with the official siemens firmware but it cant find com port 3 becuase it only will look for com1 and i dont have the serial cable. I also want to unlock this phone but i have had no luck all the way around please any help you can give me i have set out to do this and i really want to suceed. thanks again

Please click here in regards to the info you requested for having your fone unlocked. Thx.

AFAIK you can't use the usb cable you need either the DCA-500 or DCA-510 and you need to flash the phone with your computer (not with the Java programs).

digging up old thread, but have a question regarding cingular branding on s66. I have changed to s65 58cz firmware, but I can't seem to find a way to change the Network title that pops up in the upper middle of the idle screen... Mine says "Cingular" now, and I'd rather not have it there if it can be removed. I have opendisk, phone manager, and sdte (them editor), and can find no options there or in the phone to change it. Any tips?
