Need Advice on Gift for President of my company....

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

So the president of my division was told that he needs to get a blackberry/pda device by the president of our parent company. Needless to say, he is a little old fashion.

When I asked him about why he didn't get one yet, his response was that he didn't want to learn how to operate the new device if Blackberry will not exist because of the lawsuits.

I am in charge of getting him a company gift and suggested a blackberry.

1) Is it realistic that the blackberry service will be cancelled because of the lawsuits pending?

2) Will an unlocked blackberry work w/ Alltel service (his current provider)?

3) Which is the best model? 7100t is what my brother has but would like suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Timing is critical as I need to order before Xmas party.

Oops, I forgot: Do I get it on fleabay or ???

In response to your questions:

Not a chance. Even if the NTP suit goes ahead RIM has a workaround already developed, tested. and ready to deploy.

2) Will an unlocked blackberry work w/ Alltel service (his current provider)?
No - Alltel is a CDMA carrier. You will need to buy the device from Alltel directly as most CDMA carriers such as AllTel do not allow "foreign handsets"

3) Which is the best model? 7100t is what my brother has but would like suggestions.
The 7100t is for GSM networks, not CDMA. The only Berry Alltel carries currently is the 7250 which is a fine email device. They may get the new BlackBerry 7130 which is CDMA based but it's not on their web site.

Hope this helps

If learning to use the SureType is a concern for him then definitely the 7250 is the way to go, I have had a 7250 since late March and find it a great device. I am with Verizon but essentially the devices re the same, however, trust me SD5187 is absolutely correct when he says: "No - Alltel is a CDMA carrier. Doubtful for many reasons. RIM has an alleged workaround, as has been mentioned, and it is in NTP's best financial interest to make sure that RIM's Blackberry services are not shut down.
