P910 getting hot when I don't have service

I just got out of a three hour meeting with a client, their office is in a basement and I didn't have service. I took my P910 out of the holder and it was hot to the touch. I'm not sure if this is a known issue with the phone or it's my handset.
Anyone else have this issue?

I doubt there is anything wrong with the phone.
When you don't have service the phone is constantly searching for a signal instead of just maintaining its current connection with the tower. So its working overtime trying to connect and uses up a lot more battery which in turn produces heat.
I think you would find this will happen to any/most phones.
