Problem Sounds common, but... (SE44 Slider)

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

OK, its a US Cellular SE 44 Slider

I have BITPIM 8.4
DATAPILOT 3.12
and FutureDials SnapMedia 1.29

The first 2 never connect or detect the phone, BitPim will get a few files in the file system tab but nothing i can use, maybe 5 or 6 files.
SnapMedia does not connect or detect, but it gives my an option to select the phone i use, i do so.
Now I am able to load MIDI rings to my phone, But the problem is that with the wallpaper it goes through the same process but never actually puts them on the phone, it says Writing image to phone and App Written Sucsessfully then resets, still no Wallpaper.
any idea?
I know the phone isnt "Supported" But the ringtones work so i should still have some hope. right?

Thanks
JOEBLACKMC

I have the VM Slider V5 (SE44) and I have SnapMedia 1.6 - what phone do you pick?
I tried the LG 5350 but that doesn't work and I get kicked out eventually.

What are your settings?

Posted by: JoeBlackMC

i select se47, thats about all the options i get.
when im asked to select the phone, all it does is tell the Snapmedia which phone interface to use, since it supports different kinds of phones which require different interfaces

its really fustrating that a comapny can sell a Datacable for a Se47 and not actually have any software to support that cable WTF is that about?

Posted by: pochrist

you have the SE47 cable or the LG6000 cable I have the LG6000 cable because it was recommended on these forums and does work with Kyocera desktop but thats about it. I can copy some stuff off it with Bitpim 0.7 but nothing to it. Apparently Kyocera desktop can puy ringers on it but the format for it kws and the only programs I have to make that format isn't acceptable to the Kyocera desktop program . I did see the SE47 cable in radio shack but skipped it because I thought it wouldn't work with mine.

Posted by: shygirlxoxo

I boought a cheap cable off ebay for 8 dollars (se47 cable is the same as se44) and it works perfectly. came with drivers and a huge cd of ringers, wallpaper, games etc...as for bitpim you need 0.7.23. You have to use the file system view which is annoying but hey it works.

Posted by: JoeBlackMC

OK Bitpim 0.7.23
does work better, i can view my filesystem and delete and upload rings but still no luck with the WP i get this message

Please see the help for details on what to do.

I finally got it, after pouring through the posts and thanx to shygirlxoxo for the heads up on the version of Bitpim I needed.

I have sucessfully loaded ringers and Wall papers / screensavers.

Now I have a VM Slider V5 se44 so I imagine the same software exists on yours.

heres how I got my Wall papers / screensavers installed

WALLPAPER & Screensavers:

You will need the program Irfanview to make wallpapers. You can find the program on google. You will also need Bitpim

MAKEING Screen Savers

Open Irfanview.

Navigate to File>open find the picture of your choice and then click on "open" Once you have opened your file navigate to Image>resize/resample.

Look for where it says "set new size".

Under there change your with to 128 and your height to 116
(NOTE: you may have to un check the "preserve aspect ratio box") and then click "ok"Your file is now the size of your sliders screen.

You will nowhave to save the file.

Goto file>save(or save as) Save the file as "mypic" or what ever you like (lower case, no spaces, no extention) After you have renamed the file, click on the "save as type" and click on PNG. Now click the "save" button

now your image is called "mypic"

A "png" file will work as a screen saver

A "bmp" file will work as a wall paper (BMP's are to saved as 24bit files 128x116) - (lower case, no spaces, no extention)

If you want

Now open BITPIM. Click on the "filesystem" tab. Then navigate to user > mypictures.

Right click on "mypictures" and navigate to "new file" Find your new wallpaper and then click "ok".

Goto games "Doodler" then add you files and assign where you want.

I hope this is clear enough like I said I used multiple post to come to this procedure and just did it tonight I have a file named "starwars" (a PNG file with no extention) as a screen saver and a picture of my "kids" (BMP 24bit with no extention) as a Wall paper.

Post us back and let us know if it worked for you, if for no other reason than to keep this information on top for the next set of people who come to this forum. I suspect between Christmas and New years ( I know that the Slider V5 is on sale for $39.99 at VM and almost couldn't buy it because the day I saw it on the Website it was sold out, the next day i checked and it was back in stock.) I orginally bought the Slider for my wife for Xmas, but the price was so good I decided to get one for me too! I just put my Audio vox 8500 on Ebay.
Good luck

If you want
Now open BITPIM. Click on the "filesystem" tab. Then navigate to user > mypictures.
Right click on "mypictures" and navigate to "new file" Find your new wallpaper and then click "ok".
Goto games "Doodler" then add you files and assign where you want.

I dont understand, i still get the same error when i go to mypictures-new file-OK
and what about the DOODLER? its not saved in there. please explain further.
I feel like a damn retard with this stuff.

homerbart2.jpg

Would this be the file your trying to install? If so it isn't the in the correct format.

1) Make sure you can see 3 letter extensions in Windows ie.(Filename.exe or Filename.jpg)

If you can't open "My computer" go to "Tools" menu > "Folder options" click the "View" tab and scroll down and uncheck "Show hidden files and Folder" and uncheck "Hide extension in known file types" Click "Apply"

Now when you make the wall papers use the Same one the instructions suggested
"Irfanview" its free and available.

Make sure you follow the file formats outlined above

"bmp"=Wallpaper and "png"=Screensaver

After you have made them and named them right click on them one at a time and chose "rename" and delete the 3 letter extensions
"homerbart2.bmp" becomes homerbart2 (ignore any Windows error messages)

Yes it is...

AFTER you have loaded the file on your phone then Goto "Games" > "Doodler" there you can SEE your picture in the list and assign it to become you wall paper

Posted by: JoeBlackMC

i see, although the error message with homerbart2.jpg was just one of many error messages i got, with all pictures in jpg bmp and png formats. i then dropped the extension and checked the size requirements and still get that error message. any advise?

Posted by: shygirlxoxo

try opening in infranview...then save as whatever ie:bmp7...it will now be bmp7.bmp then right click the file you made and rename to just bmp7..no extension..turns it into a file. My se44 will ONLY use bmp. then do what you were doing
1. bitpim
2. user
3. mypictures (right click new file)
it should be in my pictures when you press up

Posted by: JoeBlackMC

nope, no different, ive used any and all file formats, and dropped the extension.
r u sure were not putting to much emphasis on dropping the extension??

Posted by: JoeBlackMC

does anyone else get the ERROR message i posted earlier?
I dont see any difference in what im doin.

Posted by: JoeBlackMC

im gonna go F'n Nuts!
could someone just send me a WP file that they used, if it doesnt load up with Bitpim ill just flush the phone down the Toilet. I dont even like talking on the phone i just wanted some nice WP's for the phone!

Posted by: pochrist

Well I got a Error message that Looks alot like yours: I was trying to over write one of the slider open / close sound with a mp3 file and it generated a similar error but in my error message I did see the word "Locked" so that leads me to believe on my phone at least that the "slidesnd" directory is "Read only" or un writable. It may be that case with with your phone but I don't know. I have a VM Slider V5 se44 so it's no shock to me if its been "Locked" but I don't know anything about US Cellular. Maybe some else could verify this. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Posted by: JoeBlackMC

ITS cool, buts i dont think its locked, atleast not the wallpaper part

Posted by: pochrist

I would try 1 more thing, when I was having my problems with other newer versions of Bitpim it was detected (or I set it to "other CDM") If I try that with this version (7.23) Bitpim won't even display the file system, and will come back with an error that it can't detect the phone, but it does work with my phone if I goto settings and change my phone to "LGX4400" maybe this may help, I would change it to the LG phone shut off Bitpim 7.23 and run it again , goto file system and see if you can install the wall paper.

Posted by: JoeBlackMC

Naw, still no good. I really appreciate the input though.
Again could someone send a WP file that they have used and installed correctly on a se44 or 47, maybe if i am able to load one of those files, ill be able to determine of the problem is the FILES ive been trying, or else im out of ideas

Thanks in advance

Posted by: JoeBlackMC

I DID IT!!
I put the PNG file W/Extension in the Brew/Shared Folder and it worked!

you have to save the ringtones under the user/sounds/ringers section so that it will read them. the wallpapers needs to be saved under the brew/shared folder

and it worked! i cant tell you why but it did.

Posted by: pochrist

Well that just complicates the crap out of things, some one would have to compile a guide for each phone and the carrier since the File structure is so different from phone to phone. My wife and have the same VM Slider v5 se44 and the file structure is identical. I was trying to modify my slidersnd files and add my own but I can't over write them and the Directory is locked so I can't over write them, I can add files to it, but it does recognize mp3's or any mid files I put in it
