MAME for P800

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Looks like someone just released a port of MAME for the SE P800, so all you lucky people with the P800 can now play all the classic arcade games:

Yeah, but it's not so simple, is it? You install this, then you gotta extract something from the data file of the games, or something? And where do we find these games?

Or is it simpler than that?

Posted by: szerby

The newsgroups are a great place to find ROMS. A google search will find them also pretty fast. Use the file names this guy has on his site. Mame uses the files in the ZIP format, so no extraction is needed.

Szerby,

Thanks for the info, still is a bit of work, though.

Although this is off topic on this thread, how do you compare the Thera with the P800?

Maybe you could write us all a quick blurb, even in a new thread.

I would think that the following is true -- the P800 is a phone first, and an integrated PDA second, and the Thera is a PDA first, and an integrated phone second. True? and bettery life on Thera must not compare to P800.

its NOT a lot of work.

it would be like taking a cd ripping to mp3 then transfering to ur P800.

ARRRRGGGG!!! Why did you have to post this???? It's not like I wanted a P800 bad enough already! Since there is no MAME emulator for the gameboy advance yet, If I had a P800, my portable gaming bliss would be complete!

Posted by: vortix

Sorry about that DJ Teknosys lol.....seeing this makes me want a P800 even more too. I wonder how fast Mame runs on the P800??

BTW, here's a pic of the P800 with PacMan running on it:

Nice pics..............games on this big screen must be very impressive..........wondering how to play the games,,,,,,,using stylus or joy dial ??

Posted by: jeffharris

Okay, so now I installed it, and found a couple of ROMs, like Pac man, and Missle Command. EVERY one of the enclosed game ROMs in the zip file either crashes, or tells me it's missing some files. Anyone have a working ROM of any game in the P800?

Try this site.........

I need help, how do you install emame-src file into p800?
please detail. thanks.

Posted by: Jez Harris

I have succesfully installed MAME and managed to find some Rom files. i.e. pacman.zip. From what I can understand I am supposed to be able to just copy and paste the .zip file into the Rom folder under Documents!
But when I browse to the above folder I do not have the option to "paste"
Is there something I'm missing here?
Advise will be very much appreciated.

We need help here...............

ok Guys
First of all you have to install emame in to your P800 .

Then Try to find Roms for the games you want to install. I recomend these webpages :

http://www.capitalfederal.com/DownLoad/Mame37/GAL4.HTM

http://www.highimpact.demon.nl/roms/mame/

move the zip files you download to /documents/unifiled

From there you can move them to /documents/roms

then open emame application in your Phone
thengo to game
select scan for installed games .

And then there you are you can play

Enjoy it

Posted by: Mar

sorry Guys you paste the zip files first at /documents

Posted by: ShovelhEd

I have seen something called MameComplete_062...It's a 5.2 Gig archive of just about every MAMe released ever...

Posted by: Jez Harris

More help needed please.

When choosing to "paste" in the Documents folder nothing happens - nothing is actually pasted

I can succefully "paste" images and audio etc but nothing happens when trying to paste "ZIP" files.

Any thoughts? ......... please

Posted by: pappapuff

Experienced the same problem as you, Jez. The trick was to copy to the unfiled folder first, and then cut into the roms folder.

Haven't gotten the roms to work though.

Posted by: aleman

I can get the games loaded, but the ROMs crash when I try to run them. I could use a little help as well.

just wondering... well i got the game pacman in my palm but at least it got a few buttons for me to control.. but... without them how can we control the pacman in p800? can the jogdial make the pacman go left and right?

Posted by: snoopy20

Yeah, confusing thing is, how would I control, say pac-man for example. He would just run straight into the wall and get gobbled up by the ghosts.

Posted by: WoeDee

Wirelessly posted (SonyEricssonP800/R101 Profile/MIDP-1.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.0)

You control Pac Man's direction with the stylus. Not bad at all; works well for me

got this from the http://www.yipton.net

Game control

* Navigation: Use the stylus as an on screen joystick. When moving the stylus on screen, EMame generates move events for that direction. If, after moving, you keep the stylus down EMame will keep generating events for the last direction you've moved to.
* Button 1: Jogdial up and down both map to Button 1. Typically button 1 is used for shooting; if so, then you achieve the best result by repeatedly scrolling up and down with the jog dial.
* Button 2: Jogdial left, right and inwards all map to Button 2.
* Insert Coins: Just like a normal arcade machine, you have to insert coins before playing a game. When the game displays its splash screen, use the Camera Button to insert coins.
* Start Button: After inserting a couple of coins, press the Browser Button to start the game.
* Quit: During the game press the power button to quit the game.
* Pause: During the game close the flip to pause the game. You can resume it by opening the flip and clicking on the EMame entry from the applications list. EMame then shows you a dialog from which you can stop or resume the game.
* OK: When prompted to press OK during the startup of a game, you may press any key for O and any key for K.
