It should come in the package with your phone, why do you need the latest version, I think pebl is the only moto that has the newest version 4.0.

What you need is not 3.4 what you need is 3.28.
Be warned, the tool does not allow you Multi-Media services.
It does, however, give you a great conact and calendar management.

BitPim is a software which lets you retreive pics off you phone for free.
It's also supposed to pull audio and video and put it on the phone but
I've yet to try that functionality.

This software has limitations with the Razr.

Personally, I'm using the FileSystem functionality to get my pics and vids off the Razr.

Someone said that Verizon limits some of the functionality with the V3c. I think there's a way to get around it though. Check the modding section, I think that's where I saw it.

I just recently got a Razr phone and am trying to figure out how to get pics stored on the phone off of it. I've read through this thread and gather that I need some sort of 3rd party software (either Bitpim, MPT or FileSystem) to do this. I am completely new to camera phones and have never done this. Do I download the software to my home PC or to the phone via it's web connection? Once the software is downloaded, how do I get the PC and phone to connect to each other? Is some sort of cable necessary?

Everyone assumes that you get this MPT with your RAZR phone but I didn't get this with my phone either. I didn't even get the USB cable. Where can I download this MPT from?

You can order it from Motorola direct, get it on ebay as a combo with a mini usb or BT dongle, or many other online stores. You could also download it illegally, and buy the mini-b 5-pin on Amazon or ebay... Grey matter+Google works miracles.

I just picked up my v3c today, and have had it a couple hours.

So far, I'm pretty impressed.

Anyways, I've just obtained MPT, and currently am installing. Will keep you posted on how it goes.

Called Motorola today and was told Mobile Phones Tools 4.0 version will be available on their website starting Monday the 9th. The 4.0 version is for the RAZR V3c Verizon phone , which I have. Good Luck.

The version I had got was version 3.23 and didn't work with my phone. After several updates to version 4.04, I was able to connect my v3c, and it was reckonized and all the features worked perfectly.

MPT works great with RAZR. I have a Razr v3c with Alltel and it works fine on transfering vids , pics and music.

Your best bet would be to use bitpim and pull them off. Just be careful with what you mess with, you could damage your phone if you don't know what your doing...

I just got the V3c a few days ago and recently downloaded MPT 4.0.4b. I had no problems at all transfering pics to or from my computer.

However, what I can't do is snyc Calendar or Contacts. I don't get it. When I try to sync it says memory full (even though I know I have memory). Any suggestions?

First off I'm a noob to phones so please disregard if this doesn't apply, with that said, this worked for me.

Make sure your picking the right phone when setting up the modem in MPT. I was able to get my Verizon V3c working with MPT ver.3.23 by using the E815M, by choosing the "M" it got the multimedia part of MPT working.

I now have ver.4.0 and it works fine for mp3's and pix. Make sure to pick V3cm, I tried just using V3c and all but the multimedia worked.

I just downloaded version MPT Ver.4 today. On my Verizon Razr V3c I can manage and sync contacts. And use my phone as a modem (connect at 14.4 K according to the phones display, but my notebook PC indicated 200Kbps plus). It installed some Verizon proprietary surf speed enhancer. Surfing speed seems decent.

It never asked me what phone I had. But the GUI shows a picture of a Razr.

I can not move photos with it. Or MP3s.

My big question is: am i being charged additionally for this data? Or is it just using plan minutes?

I need help. have verizon v3 razr. mobile phone tools 4.04b and outlook 2003 on xp pro. But phone tools won't recognize my outlook folder as my contacts source... will only see outlook express. Help MUCH appreciated! I need to be able to sync my contacts from outlook... thanks.

it didnt come with my V3, but a friend of mine gave me one, i updated to the 3.28 but i cant get it to detect my razr, i did configurated to tried and see the phone but negative, if anyone had done this b4 pla give me sum helpss!!!!

When I plug my verizon razr into usb and turn on mpt, it doesn't alow multimedia center. I read that if I switch the phone recognition to a non-verizon razr the multimedia should work. How do I do this?

How do I use the filesystem to get the pictures off my Razr? There is nothing in My Computer when I plug in the phone.

If MPT isn't recognizing your phone then you need to do the following......
  1. go to the Control Panel in Windows
  2. open up the "Phones & Modems"
  3. click on "Modems" tab
  4. delete anything that says Motorola USB
  5. exit out of that & open MPT back up WITHOUT HAVING THE PHONE CONNECTED
  6. follow the prompts to get MPT to recognize your phone

Hi, I did what you said and I still can't open Multimedia or file center. What firmware version do you have? I have the GATW_01.OF.03. Plus I have the 3.40 drivers for the phone. Thanks!

So, i got all the transfering of video's, pictures, ringtones, and etc. working on my v3c (not without some seem editing but hey thats life). So does anyone know how to transfer java applications from your phone to your comp to back them up. I tried it with PST and it said my phone wasn't kjava enabled. If anyone has any ideas i would greatly appriciate the help. Thanks.

if you know how to use a bit torrent downloader do a search for it and you should find something.... then you can use their online update to get it to the current version. There is also bitpim which is freeware. That you can find and download from the web.

I am sure that there are quite a few things that escape some of those here who think they have to pipe up with statements about what others should or should not do. You provided valuable information by saying that the app. is worth the money, so why precede it with a jab?

I already synchronized my razrv3c with mpt 3.28 and got the multimedia studio working by doing everything on MarkVentures page (drivers, modem.pac, etc.), however, after not using it for a while, now that I wanna use it, it goes into the multimedia studio, but the copy to phone or copy to pc buttons are grayed out...what is wrong? thanks

problem is they spend 40 bucks on a peice of software they will use for maybe a few months and then move on. problem is they should have given you a copy with the phone even if it was a limited version to sync phone calander and contacts. made the mistake of spending money on oxigen phone manager for my ngage i had for a couple months.

For those who are NOT aware.. Motorola Phone Tools, aka MPT, is NOT FREEWARE...

While available for download on some web sites, MPT is NOT FREEWARE. Its copyright software. To obtain a legal copy you must purchase it!

The only legit place to download a copy is DIRECTLY from the maker.. BVRP/Avanquest.. when you purchase it... (See the link I posted earlier)...

The forum RULES specifically prohibit links to WAREZ or pirated software.. like MPT, PST, etc...

So a total noob question, but what possible things can I do with these programs (no matter how I obtain them) that I would not be able to do otherwise? I know that you can backup your contacts, calender, and pictures, but what about modding? I went to and joined MotoModders and to tell you the truth, I was a bit out of my league ! Any advice would help and cool tips as to what to do to a Moto Razr V3 (tmo service) would be great. Thanks in advance!!!

Well, I have bought a Razr v3. It came with MPT v4 and USB cable.

I installed the MPT software (on an xp machine), it did the live update thing. Then asked me how I want to connect. I selected "cable" -> next.
It prompted me to attach the cable etc.....
It said "found new .... blah blah"
But will it install a driver? no, will it hell.

I've tried everything I can think of. I've surfed, read, re read, re installed - nada

It cant seem to find the right driver!!

I'm not impressed at all.

It escapes me how:
Companies cannot provide easy tools for basic maintenance.
Companies get away with making extremely proprietary mods to phones, yet people still buy them.
People can't look around to buy the program for $15 before complaining about $50 that Moto charges.

I bought LG 'cuz I can crank it with Bitpim.
My organization bought me the V3xx 'cuz we needed coverage.

how do you even get filesystem functionality? I probably have the wrong driver. I used to have a motorola V551 phone with a data cable, and the P2K software that worked fine with that phone, but not with the RAZR. Can you help?

im pretty sure i went thro this whole thread and found everyone with almost the same problem

i have the mobile phone tools software and the usb cable, i can get video and pictures off or put onto phone, works great... i can also put songs on there too butttt... they wont apply as ringtone!!!! thats my only problem.. i got sooo many ringtones and they only go on the phone as just audio to listen too, anyone that could help me with this... email me, or msg me or something... or post on here to help others with same problem

I don't know why you guys are having such problems with the BVRP software for the Motorola V3xxx...I've got a V3m and it works great...I can make my own ringtones, ul and dl pictures, do the contacts list...this is, however, the first phone I've been able to do this with from Motorola or any other manufacturer....all my other phones gave me fits except this one...

Oh, and software, ebay....I got it and a cable for $5....why dl it illegally if you can do it right and not worry about getting caught...

Wow, I went to eBay, found a listing for the tools for $3.99 downloaded, did the deal and it works perfectly, even detected and updated for my V3a, even registered it. But I'm not happy, I have to find it free somewhere, I mean, information wants to be free right? Even though I have it already I need to download it somewhere for free or I just won't feel right....anybody got a link?

The more I think about it....I could have gotten a cheeseburger with that $3.99 or a little over a gallon of gas, damn! what a rip off, almost $4 for what Motorola is selling for $50....I'm steamed.

Well I have the latest version of mpt, paid for, and the V3A from Alltel, and mpt always crashes whenever trying to transfer pics, or just trying to view pics already on my phone, i visited bvrp forums but to no avail i recieved no help solving this problem, so I don't think the v3a if fully supported in mpt yet.

buy a 1 gig micro sd card, open up the battery case, take out the battery and push the card in. turn the phone on and go to your pix/flix select the pix/flix go to its' options and select move (6 for pix, 5 for flix) chose yes and it will move it to the card (a c will apear in the name or pic) take the card out and put it into the computer and take the pics/flix off. ok
