um thats kinda a hard one because there both good in some ways.... the lg doesnt have free Txt and aim and stuff like that and the sidekick does..BUT the camera of the sidekick SUX! well not really its pretty good but the lg camera is 1.3 megapixels and the LG has v cast and the sidekick doesnt... but if it was up to me i would still pick the sidekick......oh ya and another good thing about the LG is that they wont be coming out with like LGvx9800 2 and 3 and stuff but for the sidekick they will and if u have sidekick 2 it will get old after a while

Definitely, I actually got a lg9800 for a day, returned it the next :-\. Not becuase it sucks, but the reception from my house was ZERO, and the verizon store was only 3 mins from walking distance to where I live, I live in a suburban area too. But like jay said, verizon doesnt offer free txt messaging, with t-mobile u can get unlimited + the use of aim and yahoo. Can't really beat that offer at the moment unless sk3 comes out w/ edge support.

1. Screen - LG's screen is much smaller.
2. The add-on's from VZW to give you the same level of functionality are expensive.
3. The keyboard is not as big as the SKII.
4. The LG feels less solid - subjective call
5. Does not have same level of interoperability between the apps that the SKII does.

The consensus among those expressing an opinion (which means jack), is that the SKIII will have EDGE, BT and at least a 1.3MP camera. All or none of these may/may not make it into the SKIII but it's a good bet some will.

Wait and see what's delivered next year...if you can stand to wait that long...

Just try the aim on one, you'll see...

get a sidekick, vx9800 doenst have an operating system. That limits what it can do to just a normal phone with a keyboard.

Had not one but 2 9800's, does not even have email other then for 19.95 pr month. Get the SK or a BB more serious devices.

I bought the LG vx9800 and returned it the next day, and the main thing that turned me off, is that the Java AIM Application uses your Text Messaging. So every IM you send/receive, every update to your buddy list (refresh buddy list, block, etc etc.) counts as one text message. Unfortunately Verizon does not have unlimited text messaging

See my posts here:

to sum it up:
-If, like me, you use AIM, and email, and WWW, a ton, get the SK. TRUST ME.

-If you want something smaller, more "phone-like" with VERY cool multimedia (video + mp3 that can be hacked, and expandable memory for it) and *VERY LIMITED* AIM, WWW, and email, get the 9800.

i had the sidekick under contract when it was up i gave it up to look for maybe a treo or bb with verizon but since realizing the cost of owning one of those devices with verizon i jumped back onto the sidekick bandwagon for data only.

so, imo if ur looking for a great data plan, stick with tmo and the sidekick II, u cant beat 30 bux a month for unlimited txt, aim, yahoo, email and web browsing.

also, check ur area for reception answers, cause nothing kills having a great functioning phone like having crappy phone service.
