Write Protection for miniSD for 903

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I've tried turning off write protection by switching the different positions of the lock tab but for some reason it always says that my 1 gb minisd card is write protected.. what am i doing wrong here? how do i take off write protection?

Posted by: Kevbodian

wow that sucks. what brand of mini-sd is it? i wonder if the phone just wont accept that large of a card. i mean i have heard of people using 1gb no problem, but perhaps the card you have just isnt compatible.

Maybe try another minisd card, see if the same problem persists.

Okay I should prolly tell you guys that it works fine, like when it's in the 903 it can record video, and save pictures to the card and it's no problem, but the minute i try and transfer the stuff to my computer, or put files onto it from my computer it says that the card is write protected... whats going on?

Posted by: DjTraNcEFoRmeD

Hmm, have you tried another miniSD adapter? That might work.

Posted by: volcompunk

yup i have the one that i got with the 903 and the one that came with the 1 gb both say the same thing. I've never had a problem transfering my files to my computer until now... is there another way to change write protection different from the lock switch?

That's the strangest thing i've heard, but its possible that you have write protected the files in windows, try to see if the files are read only.

ahhh. hrmm. john, you might try a complete reformat if possible via phone. or else. bring your memory card and adapter to a different pc, format it that way once more. must be some wierd setting stucik in xp thats causing you issues.

Posted by: volcompunk

Okay I reformatted the card with the 903 (i couldnt with my computer cause of the write protection) but it's still write protected! It sucks because I can't put any files on the phone and now all the movies I did have are erased! Does anyone have any idea of how to fix this!!?

Posted by: DjTraNcEFoRmeD

maybe it is something with your card reader, have you tried using another card reader?

Posted by: volcompunk

I tried formatting it with my old sharp tm-150.. still the write protection stays.. i dont know what else to do

Posted by: DjTraNcEFoRmeD

maybe you corrupted the hardware somehow if it isn't working on all of the other phones.

Posted by: volcompunk

well it lets me format it on my old sharp tm150 but when i put it in the computer to format it with that, it says write protection again

I was having the same problem. In the locked or even unlocked position on my mini adaptor, i still couldent write anything to the card. You have to change the read/write atrribute of the reader you are using. Some readers give you the option, ortherwise you have to do it using windows. It doesnt have to do with the card, it has to do with the reader.

Hope most ppl's problem was the same as mine!

Posted by: volcompunk

Could you help me out and tell me how you would do something like that? I can't find the option to change the read write attributes of my card reader anywhere. what exactly do you mean do it using windows? thanks for the help!

I am haveing the same problem, I have a 512mb mini sd. It works fine in the phone. When I put it into the computer I can see my pics and videos, but says it is write protected. The tab on the sd card is off the protect. When I goto file properties is says read only. When I uncheck read only and hit ok, then check again, read only is checked again. Any one know whats wrong?

hey guy I know its a noob question but where exactly is the write protect tab? I am looking around and I can't find it anywhere...

miniSDs aren't supposed to have write-protect tabs at all. I think there's a very small number of them that do implement it though.

It should be on the sd card adapter on the left side not on the mini sd card it self.

Well I got mine to work using a different card reader. The card reader built into my pc will only read. The usb card reader that I also have works fine.
