If I was to buy a cheap 7-11 phone to use when I go out, would it work on Cingular? If I was to get it unlocked of course.

As long as you get one of the GSM phones you should be OK.

I have a nokia 1100 from 7-11 (Speakout) that I use as a trash and I dont care phone. Just something I use if I lose or drop it off the boat I don't care.

Just one thing you need to know....

yes it is unlocked and cost me 29.99 after 50 buck rebate....

But the one I have only works with a 32K SIM the 64K SIM does not work with my nokia 1100, it keeps on rebooting with a 64K SIM...They might have upgraded the firmware on the phone since I got my nokia about 1 year ago..so keep that in mind....

Some of those phones are at a good price. Saw a Nokia 6010 for $50 for GoPhone. Not bad if ya ask me.

Funny thing is that 7-11 prepaid phones actually operate on the Cingular network. They are a re-seller of Cingular svc, they do not own any of the network. That said, their phones may be locked and may or may not w/ a Cingular plan unless unlocked.

My sister-in-law has a Speakout Nokia 1100...just on a whim I put the 64K SIM from my 6230b in it, and it worked just fine. Perhaps it's a firmware difference...she got it within the past 4 months or so.

I forgot how but I was able to get into see what firmware I was running and it was the most current version as per "Bongowireless web site" for the nokia 1100. perhaps its the 64K SIM, I am using a 310150 region 64K SIM I know that this has the "ENS" software thing on it. perhaps the other regional SIMS 310170 and 310410 and the 310410 are ok with the nokia 1100. I know that 7-11 had pulled the 1100 from the shelf for a while due to this problem. Maybe they upgraded the software to work with the 64K sim...

If you can search on how to display your firmware please do next time you see your sister in law and tell me what version of firmware and regional 64K Sim you are using??? I think I used *#9999# to see what firmware I was on...

*#0000# is the firmware code on most Nokias.
