Kyocera Slider Sonic- MP3=Ringtones??

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: ens04

How do you make the mp3's, that you transfer to your phone, as ringtones?? How do you do it?

Posted by: GTcruiser33

well first off did you get the software and USB with the phone, you should have. If you load the software (mobile phone tools) its pretty easy. Some say you can load the mp3s and use those as your ring, i couldnt do that i had to rename the .mp3s to .mid to use them as rings. either way if you have the software its pretty self explanatory

Posted by: fairuza

are you sure this stuff works with the slider sonic? there seems to be something different about the slider sonic compared to other similar phones like the slider remix that prevents it from being able to do the same things. i don't know. maybe i need newer drivers for it or something? i know the slider sonic has the wireless modem feature disabled and same for bluetooth and camera pic transfer through usb, so why not driver access also? oh yeah, the camera's picture quality was reduced from 1.3 megapixels down to vga also (300kb). so slider sonic is pretty damn crippled!

virgin mobile emailed me saying that mobile phonetools doesn't even work with their slider sonic, nor does the desktop software. this would explain why the phone doesn't even come with any drivers or software, just a usb cable for the transflash card. i am awaiting a response from kyocera about if newer drivers exist for the slider sonic than what is on their site (late 2004 kx5 drivers, which by the way installed to a folder called kx2 and same for the inf files!?!?).

i wish more people had this exact same phone and would figure out how to get it working correctly with stuff because i don't know what the hell is up with it.

just like fairuza said, the slider sonic does not come with a CD/Software, it only comes with the USB Cable,Adaptor, 32MB Transflash Memory Card

You probably forgot to mention the headset.

I've been working on this for a while. This is what I've come up with so far.

The USB cable that comes with the sonic can only be used to access the file system on the transflash card. For anything else, you need to get the USB cable that plugs into the headset jack.

I just ordered one here
http://kyoalpha.smithmicro.com/Prod...?ProductID=4582
US$37 w/tax and 2nd day shipping.

You can also make one (hint: there's an extra contact hidden on the outside of the jack that the standard headset plug won't contact used for TX. The tip and second contact on the plug are not used. The third contact on the plug is Ground, and the fourth is RX)

NOT VERIFIED--> Using the KPST you can unlock the file system using the "Multimedia" tab. This will allow you to transfer files such as wallpapers and ringtones to the transflash filesystem using original USB cable.

Like I said... I just ordered my cable so I haven't tested this yet, but everything I've seen makes me believe this will work.

Posted by: ens04

can somebody confrim that this works for ringtones/wallpaper/screensavers ??

Posted by: Dzyan

The Slider Sonic (ReMix) DOES NOT allow you to upload MP3 ringers using Mobile Phone Tools (the replacement for Kyocera Phone Desktop) the only format that is allowed for ringers is MIDI. It is also up to the carriers to decide what features they want enabled / disabled on the phones.

Posted by: FredHenk

whats the good word. I'm in the same situation. Need to know cable LGXBU099A works so I can do the same thing.

Posted by: joejoebinkz

the kyocera slider remix and the slider sonic are 2 completely different phones, so get it right. (remix = kx5, sonic = kx5b)

im pretty sure the sonic supports .mp3 ringtones, although they are not the same extension. i think the program's called audacity that converts it to a different format so the phone can use it (theres a thread around here or on cellphonehacks.com that goes through how to do it)

Posted by: cuke

Still waiting for the cable!!! Second day delivery didn't work very well!

Posted by: cuke

Still no cable. I think that was a spoofed site.

Posted by: darealdboi

where do i get KSPT

Posted by: pinoleronica

I just got me a sonic (kx5b) and wish to be able to use my MP3s as ringtones.

Posted by: ens04

any update on the cable cuke?

Posted by: berry_lthird

Just save your MP3 files in the saved sounds folder on the transflash card. Browse to them from the phone and from there, you can assign them as either the default ringer or as a contact ringer.

there is no saved sounds folder, there are only two folders: My Music, My Videos.

Let me make it clear again for everybody, the slider remix is NOT the slider sonic

Fair enough.

Do you have a media browser in your menu, and if so, is there a section for saved sounds?

If so, humor me this: Try creating a folder called SAVEDSND on the media card, then save your MP3's there and see if they appear.

*shrugs*

Posted by: pilot777

Plz share the Mobile Phone Tools in this thread.

Ok, when I first connect the USB cable to my computer and open up the E:/ drive all I see is two folders which are My videos & My Sounds (This is on the Kyocera Slider Sonic KX5B). I then tried what you said, to create "a folder called SAVEDSND on the media card" and put my mp3 on that folder, well nothing happened, so it didnt work. Anybody else have any more ideas? I really want my own ringtones and I dont want to buy from Virgin Mobile because they dont have any of the ringtones that I want, Virgin Mobile only has a majority of hip-hop ringtones, which I hardly listen to anymore

Edit: I have one question, My friend has another provider(Not Virgin Mobile), can he send me his ringtones to my Slider Sonic KX5B through MMS?

Posted by: joejoebinkz

ok
i ordered the same cable cuke ordered from kyocera and it turns out that its the same cable that normally comes with the slider sonic, not the one that looks like it connects through the headphone jack. I called up customer service and said that they should change the picture, because the picture for the data cable for the slider sonic is actually the data cable for the kx16 (candid). talk about false advertisement. i think im gonna try making one on my own with parts from radioshack that connects through the headphone jack because im almost 100% thats how to bypass the transflash card and get to the internal memory of the phone.

someone already got inside the internal memory of the Slider Sonic but is not able to make them as ringtones, here is the link:

Posted by: joejoebinkz

yea but theres no way of getting things out of the phone like pictures. im think im gonna buy trihead screwdriver to take the phone apart, i have a sneaky hunch that virgin has just disconnected a pin or 2 from the female part of the plug in the phone from the main circuit board. btw, i dont think any data cable is used for the headphone jack, because a standard stereo set of headphones has 3 sections on the jack itself, 1 left, 1 right, and one ground. i think cuke is wrong with the 4 sections of the 2.5 headphone/microphone jack on the phone cause the additional section is for the microphone.

Wow I guess I havn't been on for a while. So everyone knows, the site I listed earlier was a spoofed site. They got my credit card number . never got the cable. I haven't been working with my phone lately, been busy with court. Anyway, there is one more thing I found. The headset jack has two external connections, one above and one below, in addition to the four internal connections. Maybe someone can find what these are for, possibly Tx/Rx? Let me know! If anyone knows where to find the tri-blade screwdriver, please point me in the right direction. I've been looking in all the local stores to no avail. A small torx bit almost worked, but stripped. I was also thinking of bending a small flat blade screwdriver into a V shape.

Posted by: BoredKender

i also agree that it would begreatly appreciated if somone posted the mobile phone tools. i have the slider remix, but all that came on teh cd was usb drivers

You completely forgot about the answer key, it uses additional (fourth) contact. Well, thats' right with the stereo headset. They say there are 6 contacts in h/f jack though.

Umm...it looks like Kyocera's site, but what's with the smithmicro addy in the prefix?

Also, those are the same pages on Kyocera's actual website. Same prices and everything: http://store.kyocera-wireless.com/p...?productID=4582

Also, your Slider Sonic has the same data interface as the Remix/KX5: It is the same port at the bottom of the phone used for charging. This is why the dock, charger, and the joypad accessories are universal for both phones.

You may be able to use the dock's or the adapter cable that comes with the game pad as a data cable: Both sport a USB interface. The game pad's adapter cable, however, has a mini USB plug instead of the full-sized plug.

No one has yet verified that this is possible, however.

I asked the moderators to remove this link, but it never happend.

Don't go to this site!!!!!!

Anybody know the pinouts for the USB connector? Anyone willing to hack apart their cable to find what pins are connected?

Posted by: Wraith_3

I just got a Sonic, I wish I would have done more research now! Has anyone found anything new on uploaded ringtones?

Posted by: Wraith_3

Nothing new at all? Did anyone figure out if the USB cable that plugs into the headphone plug works?

Posted by: bonecrusher

So basically wat this is saying is that there is no way to use your own custom made ringtones on this phone, am i right??

Posted by: Scarlethands

Any news yet on if it's possible to get your own ringtones on it?

Posted by: NeoQuest

Here pinout Slader Sonic

Posted by: rocketteem

Can anything be done with that?

Posted by: NeoQuest

All. To load melodies. With a notebook to work. Pictures load.
It is necessary for this purpose QPST, KWST.
All works for me.

Posted by: rocketteem

Ok, so those pinouts allow access to the internal memory then?

Any chance you could tell me or show me where, I can find intructions on how to make a cable? And what software to use?

Posted by: zoojube4114

so....any update on this cable or what? i just got the sonic a week or so ago and I'm tired of paying $$$ for stuff i could upload for free on my old phone.

I made a serial cable to connect to the pins shown in the pinout of the KX5B, but this did not work with Bitpim, QPST, or KPST. This may be the end of the road. It seems that the Slider Sonic is not crackable. But if you want to try making a cable it is very simple. Take an old serial cable and cut the male connector off. Strip the wires inside and connect the black to the Rx and orange to Tx. If I made an error with my color coordination (black=Rx, orange=Tx) please tell me.

Bu lshi t!, everything works fine, I altered the esn on vmu kx5b (dj1014 or 1004, don't actually remember) via the efs, you just play with the pins in vice verse, did you switch the battery at all? First put into dm running se47tool.exe by Megaslava. To cry it doesn't work is rather easy than not to do you want. Read the forum and find the info.

I think I had the wrong wires connected to the wrong pins, so I will try again.

Posted by: cuke

Wow! Seems theres been some activity since I last checked this thread. Guess the headphone jack was a bust. pilot777, what type of port did you use, old school sub-d serial or USB? Also, any more info on the slider pins used, namely the purpose of the jumpers/resistor? Assume its pull up for enabling, but would like to know more. If anyone has info on all the pinouts please post.

Anyone know/have the latest version of KPST?

Anyone able to unlock the file system to allow saving photos to the mem card?

Posted by: pilot777

If it goes about Rx, Tx -- what type of cable it is? I soldered to two tiny touchpoints and a gnd. No need in resistors and other pins. Just three ones - rx, tx and gnd.
I have the KWPST v3.8.18 that works fine with this handset.
You probably meant to save photos to your pc, didn't you? Just use the bitpim for it.

I didn't understand what pinout you were looking for. I've got the one to use the Sonic as a flash drive -- downloading mp3/wma, 3pg, etc. I got it form the regular Sonic package contents from vmu. It is pure usb, non-profilic-type.

Posted by: cuke

The pad with the blue line just below the Rx Tx pads doesn't have a label in the image. Would that be a GND point?

Posted by: cuke

pilot777 Yes, thats the cable I was refering to. I was wondering what pins on the phone side were being used. I'd also like a complete pin usage list for the bottom port on the phone if anyone has that info.

Posted by: srsizzy

Has any progress been made in this? I'm really wanting a way to get stuff on my phone, and I don't know how these pinouts work or anything. I wish someone knew how this worked and could walk me through it. God, there's not that many people on the net trying to hack into Slider Sonics.

to transfer files, the easiest way is to use the USB cable from the kyocera site, its also available at wirelessgalaxy.com (they sell it as a serial cable, but its actually a usb cable!!!).

soldering wires to the phone is probably not going to work, i gave up on that :-(

Anyway, would anyoen know hoe to make bitpim/ easy cdma/ KWPST see the phone??? I bought the usb cable from kyocera but none of the tools is able to see the phone. I can transfer files, but nothing beyond that.

I've finnaly got it
A guide to add ringtones + apps to the phone is here:

Posted by: tsaldana3

up thanks to switch we can now access our sliders by just putting the phone in pst mode...just press ##pstpst and it will say to put it in pst mode, after that the phone will be recognized by your pc and bitpim with the correct drivers...
