Ok, I have done some searching and I cant seem to find an answer. Will someone please tell me the difference between a mp3 ringtone and a .wav ringtone. thank you much!

mp3 is better... wav is a microsoft audio format which sucks big ***.. wav files take up too much memory while mp3 files dont....some phones like the i730 only except wav files rather than mp3s...the i860, 870 930 use mp3s or wavs as their ringtones

My wavs sound clearer then mp3s though.

ok i'll clear this up !
.wav is a M$ file format for windows based OS ( win98 2k XP ... )
.mp3 is a compression program that takes audio files and removes unaudible sounds to reduce the file size and also create a more universal format

Thus .wav is a bigger file (it's uncompressed ) so it sounds better
.mp3 is a smaller file ( compressed ) but some can notice a degregration in the sound (damn audiophiles )

as far as cell phones go use .mp3 if you can .wav if you have to re:IT'S A CELL PHONE NOT A MUSIC PLAYER! put music on a music player (iPod,cd player...)and use your cell as a phone

can the i850 hold mp3's?

Yes the 850 can do mp3 ringtones.

As far as wav vs. mp3, I find that mp3 ringtones sound a lot better than wav ones. If you have an 850,860,870, make a ringtone in Adobe Audition, save one copy as a wav (in the right format) and save another copy as a mp3. I will bet 95% of the time (there's always exceptions) the mp3 ringtone sounds better on the phone. Wav ringtones always sound too staticy, but that is probably due to the low sample rate. Mp3 ringtones do not sound as staticy, because that's the whole point, take out frequencies you don't need.

But in terms normal audio files, wavs (44,100Hz, 16-Bit, Stereo) will ALWAYS sound better than mp3s becuase wavs are uncompressed.
