I just got my Datacable & miniSD card for my VX9800 and i want to put some custom ringtones on my phone..

Now heres the questions:
1) How do i make ringtones with the mp3s i alrdy have on my computer?

2) how do i transfer these to my phone & use them as a ringtone?

Posted by: Waruwaru

The phone can use MP3 as ringtone. If you want to make your songs shorter (30 secs), then search for "Audacity".

To transfer stuff to your phone, use BitPim. Start reading this thread.

Posted by: nevik

do they have to be 30seconds exactly? cuz i tried doin this and 2 of my ringers were 29seconds

Posted by: Waruwaru

sorry, the 30 seconds was just an example, you can have them however long you want. I don't know if the ringtone will repeat if it runs out though.

well i think the usally length of a ring until it forwards to your voicemail is between 30-35 seconds, right?

i have the miniSD card & SanDisk Reader, is there any way for me to put ringtones on the miniSD card and use them from that?

You can use either
1. USB cable + BitPim
- or -
2. Bluetooth + BitPim

You can not get ringtones using only a miniSD card. You can put MP3s on your card and play on your phone, but not use them as ringtones.

Hey thanks for the info Waru! So since I will be using BitPim, I don't need Data cable + Software, just the data cable right???? I am looking on E-bay and there are a ton.....any recomended brands/sellers???? Thanks again Waru!

how do i get bluetooth and windows to work together?

Software = BitPim... Oh yeah, you also need a driver with the data cable so your computer knows how to talk to the phone. Some cables come with drivers, there are also some places to download them. Currently, I am using bluetooth + bitpim + miniSD card to get ringtone/wallpaper onto my 9800.

Someone recommended iTrimming as an eBay seller for the USB cable. I ordered one from them, but havn't received it yet, so can't really say anything about them. Have a good one!

Generally, steps include
- install bluetooth adapter and drivers on your computer
- enable bluetooth on your phone and make the phone visible
- pair the phone and PC (this requires you to enter a passkey on phone & pc)
- configure the bluetooth serial port on the pc to connect to phone
- estabish the COM port/make connection
- start BitPim, and tell it to use the configured serial port

Good luck!

i think ill just try to hunt down a datacable, lol sounds alot easier

I got my data cable for the 9800 and the drivers and I was in business.I figured out how to get bitpim to recognize the
phone and was off and running making my own tones. I
made a few tones then unplugged and made sure they
were there and repeated that process a few times. The
last time i did this however, when i check in my
ringtones from my phone it powers the phone off and
then back on. It does it only when i go to my
ringtones and not my sounds, where i have some clips i
saved as well. I cannot access any of my tones now. does anyone know what to do to fix this?

Posted by: nevik

is there a way to put ringtones on a miniSD card and have them work without the datacable?

I think that most likely, you have some file names that are too long. But I'm not exactly sure. I know there is another possible cause.

I checked all my filenames and they seemed fine

Ok, so is there a way to make it so they can be used as ringtones? I've read a few theads on the subject, and people make it out to seem that they can...

So your post confuses me.

Posted by: Nortisan

What he's sayin is. That with only a miniSD card and a reader you can put mp3s on the phone that can be played i nthe mp3 player, but you can't use them as ringtones.

In order to use them as ringtones, you have to use either bluetooth or a USB cable to connect the phone to your computer and then use bitpim to put the mp3s (or shortcuts to them) into the ringtone folder on the phone's memory.

Posted by: evey

Ah I see now. So my best bet would be either the cable or the buetooth dongle. And were does bitpim get installed? on the computer? Where does one get this bitpim?

Thanks for your help!

Posted by: evey

Found it! Now all i'll need is a memory card and the data cable.

Sorry for the confusion. You can not make your own ringtone with only a memory card. You can put MP3s on your memory card, and the phone will play MP3s, but the MP3s can not be used as ring tone. To convert the MP3s to RingTones on the 9800, you have to have either a cable or bluetooth and the use of some software (BitPim + drivers). Hope that clears it up.

Just got my cables/charger from iTrimming (this item here). It includes a home charger, car charger, free signal booster (probably junk), and the USB charging data cable. First ran Setup.exe from the LG folder (on the driver CD included), plug the cable in, then the cable works like a charm in BitPim! Much faster than bluetooth serial. I think I paid $12.18 USD total (including shipping/insurance/tax from S. CA to N. CA). Everything was packaged in a plastic shippingbag, so the car charger box was a bit squashed, no big deal. The USB cable looks a bit different from the picture in auction (no box in the middle of cable). It will charge your phone when it is plugged into the USB port. Pretty good deal.

Thanks Waru! I actually got mine from this company called BG cables....had 100% positive feedback, so I figured I cant go wrong......$15 after shipping....

Havent gotten it yet, but Ill let you know how it works when I do!

A friend and I have gotten all our phone accessories from iTrimming.. great price, SUPER fast shipping..

On the second note...

For those having problems adding ringtones.. here is what I do to put GOBS of mp3s in my phones memory to use as ringtones. I currently have a 30+ megs on ringtones with ZERO problems!!!

- i just made sure the ringers tab of BitPIM was empty..
- then i dropped a bunch of mp3 files on there..
- now you can have BitPIM convert the mp3s here to mono or lower quality if you want to cram more on there, or convert wav to mp3..
- then when thats all done go to the "data" menu and hit "send data to phone"
- on that check "Ringtone" and select "Add" after it.
- Hit "ok"
- Make a sandwich and a cold drink and watch TV while it uploads.. hehe
Its that simple..

If you want to add more to the phone later, repeat the list above, what ever you have in the "ringers tab" will be ADDED to the phone. If you want to remove some old ringers from the phone, you can do it from the phone like normal.

BTW... it seems you can use up ALL of the phones memory doing this.. so watch the memory meters on the phone to know how much your using. Otherwise you may not have room for taking photos or recording voice or flix.

Posted by: optikalblitz.

right here --> http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=806831

Posted by: nevik

i used the MiniSD method instead becuase i ran outa space on my phone.. but when i did the MiniSD method with BitPim, it duplicated my ringtones

Posted by: evey

Ugh. So I screwed up. I tried to add a new ringer, but clicked on "add" with all my previous ringers on there. So now I have each ringer twice. I obviously don't need them twice! How the hell do I get the duplicates off the phone now?

HELP ME SOMEONE!

Posted by: evey

can you delete them from the phone manually?
if so, sweet..

if not, just delete all the duplicates in the file system under:
/brew/16452/lk/mr/

if not, maybe try and delete the:
/dload/my_ringtone.dat & /dload/my_ringtonesize.dat
files in the filesystem browser, then reboot the phone. see if that doesnt solve your issue.

now do you still feel like the thousands of us don't wanna help you?

When you're sending from BitPim, select the replace check-box as well. It will erase all old ringtones and add only what you're sending then. Or, you can go through and replace them one by one
