If you currently have all of your contacts on the phone and copy them to the sim, does your address book then reference the sim card or the phone for your contacts?

Wirelessly posted (Nokia6682/2.0 (3.01.1) SymbianOS/8.0 Series60/2.6 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0)

Depends on the phone. My 6682 does phonebook. My moto shows both so i have double contacts

Depends on the phone as cjmedina mentions. Most Nokias have the option to show both, SIM only or Phone only.

Motorolas and Samsungs show both so you may end up with dual contacts.

There are Pros and Cons to having them in one area only. Most notable is if it is on the SIM, you cannot assign them to its own ringtone, or have more than one number to that name. If you have them on the SIM, you can just easily swap the SIM into another phone and your phonebook is with you still.

So it's all personal preference as I only have my contacts in the phone memory and nothing on the SIM. I also have them backed up on my laptop, desktop and even on my PDA's. So if the phone has bluetooth or infrared, I can easily beam it from my PDA if needed or just connect it to my computer (via data cable, infrared or bluetooth) and transfer it to the phone.
