(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hello, I have searched through a few of the forums here and cannot find an answer. I purchased the mini sd card and have transferred over mp3's. I am able to play them on the phone, but is there a way to use the mp3s as ringtones? Any information would be helpful. I have snips of songs that would work great!. Thank you

Hi, I am new to this and apologize if this is the wrong place to post a question. I just purchased a Mini SD card and a San Disk reader/writer today for my LGVX8100. I am able to view images i saved on the mini sd but the phone does not recognize my mp3s on the card. I called verizon and lg and i guess there is a legal problem with mp3s on the card but there is a way around it and i was lead here. thanks for any input.

Verizon and LG pointed you to this forum? Cool! Now...

What version of firmware are you using?
Did they tell you what this "legal issue" was?
You should just stick the card in the reader, the reader in the computer and look for a folder called "MY_MP3", put the MP3s you want in there, then, put the card in your phone, close it, and hold the play/pause button for about 3 seconds. Alternately you can go into the Get It Now menu (right arrow), Tunes and Tones (1), My MP3 (4) and they should be there. (works for me with v04 firmware)

how do i know what version of firmware i am using? i am not too familiar. regarding the "legal issue" the woman from LG i spoke to said they are "unable" to help me use the card to import mp3s because verizon wants you to get the music through them. when i called verizon they said to look for the My mp3s folder as well under Get Tunes/Tones but the folder My MP3s does not show up for me. i have about 5 mp3s on the card and im fairly sure they are there because i put photos on the card too and my phone recognizes the photos, but not the mp3s. anyway the woman from LG told me to look here for answers but was "unable" to help me with it herself because LG doesn't "support it" is what she said. thanks again

ok, go into the menu and go to "Settings and tools", go to system (4), device info (3), SW version (2), Look for the lines that look like this:

SW Version
T81VZV04
This is your software version (the one shown is 4). If you have v6 you are part of the lucky few who should look for a thread on v06 firmware for the details of what exactly you have on your hands.

He wants to use them as ringtones....All you need to do that is the "VX8100 Rintone Application" which I cant find anywhere. I used to have it but the link for it no longer works.

OOOOOOH! I understand. That would be why they had problems telling you how to do it... I gotcha. Yeah, if you want to put rings on your SD card you're gonna need a data cable/bluetooth connector, bitpim, and Josh's app. By the way, I just finished searching ALOT of threads and can't seems to find a working link to it, although I was just on his page a few days ago... seems to be gone? Anyone care to drop a working link to it?

You have software version 01. You cannot play mp3's off the card. You will need to go a Verizon Wireless store and have them flash the phone v4 (no this will not cost anything).

Once you have v4 you will be able to play mp3's just fine.

Don't forget that you have to format the sd mini card in your phone before you put anything on it.

Since when? I have v04 and I've never formatted my card, my mp3s play just like they should. Just stick the card in and it will create the necessary folders automatically. No need to power off, format, or anything.

If the phone is the first thing you have ever put the card into, then the phone will automatically format it (most devices automatically format unformatted media). However, if you were to insert the card into a computer before your phone, then the computer will format it. It will then be necessary to manually format it via the phone before use.

how do you go about formatting the mini sd in the phone. also i have put mp3s on the card, about 35 or so and it only recognizes 26 of them. its a 256mb card so it should hold a lot of songs. would there be any reason for this? thanks for the help

If you phone is recognizing the any of the mp3's (which it is) then you do not need to reformat your card. In the event you want to do it anyway, then the procedure is:
Settings and Tools -> System -> Manage Memory -> Card Memory -> Options (right soft key) -> Format Card (the password is the last 4 digits of your phone number).

(Just keep in mind that re-formatting the card erases everything on it)

The reason your mp3's are not showing up is more than likely the file names. Keep the file names under 25 characters and eliminate and special characters (".","_","(",")", etc.). The phone is picky and prefers short and simple file names.

Hope this helps.

i downloaded some sample songs from walmart's website. i know i know not 100% legit but hey! anyway, i sent them as a picture message to my phone from my email. when i got the pix message, i saved the sound. the problem i am having now is that i cannot move the song to a ringtone at all. even more stranger is that i also hit "move" while my card was in, and it said that it was moved to my card, except that when i try to check it on my card it says no songs found. if anyone can help, please email me at curtisloeffler@yahoo.com. I would greatly appreciate it

1) I'm not sure if you can save these sounds as ringers to start with....you will have to do it through bitpim

2) That is because when it saved to your card, it probably saved it in My Sounds not My Mp3's

Posted by: Blarp34

how did you download the sample songs? i cant get it to work!

Posted by: Blarp34

forget it, i was looking at the walmart downloads page instead of the walmart music... oops
