Im having a problem with SMS messages.. I just had my 903SH from japan and a guy flashed it and told me he converted it to Euro Firmware.. Im not sure though if my Firmware is European indeed but i am having problems with SMS messages.. I can only send messages of up to 160characters only, it converts to MMS when i exceed 160.. Why is thaT?

im having the same problem as well on my HK 1.05X firmware! is there any kind fellas out there to tell us bout a workaround? i know u can go to the send menu and check out msg settings, make sure its sms and not automatic, but the next time i want to send an sms its back to automatic again, anyway to set it once and for all?
thanks!

even if i change it to SMS and not automatic, when i get past 160 characters it only says File exceeds limit.. quite a headache this problem is causing me

ps: i've been told that the euro firmware does not have such a problem, u might want to check ur firmware version, as i can confirm, hk 1.05X firmware have problems with the sms.

1.046, euro right?

Posted by: prancingHORSE

yes 1.046 is euro, u might wanna check if there's smthing to do with ur simcard, i've read that someone with euro version is able to send lenghty sms-es (2 sms length) at one go on euro firmware, i suspect its simcard related problem, are u running a 2G simcard? coz i am and i have the problem. not sure if its related though.

ok i can confirm its not simcard related, i just upgraded to a 3g simcard and no go, it still turns my lenghty sms to mms, and it doesnt let me send out lengthy sms's... anyone know waht is the problem here?
thanks!

I have the same problem. I also use a JDM 903SH with 1.046 EU firmware with the power tricks goodness. Has a solution ever been found for this problem?

same thing here in our country once you exceed the 160 charcters there's another charge, I just have to change the message type to sms and all is well but I'm using Taiwan fw. I dunno why it has problems with euro.

All gsm phones can only handle 160 characters per message. I don't think the HK fw supports extended SMS.

In Europe we can send 3xSMS in one message, although I think we get charged 3SMS for this privilege.

That's right. Well, it's a firmware issue I think. I had old Nokia's that could not handle this, and newer ones could. Most newer phones here can and will tell you if you've broken the 1 SMS message and into 2 SMS boundary. This doesn't seem present on Japanese phones - or not the ones most of us use anyway, i mean, if there are some that do have it, then it'll be news to me. Anyways, Japanese phones just switch into MMS when it's over 160 characters or you add a picture or you add a subject to the message.
