I installed the USB drivers on my CP, too easy and I tried to install MPT on it and will not detect my phone and gives me "the program will not work properly" Installing software for me is no problem, so I am not sure if this program works properly with this phone...

The v360 works just fine with MPT, assuming your version is up-to-date. What version number do you have now?

I was using 3.11. So should I update to the newest version?

I just had this same issue with the v360. After about 2 hours of web surfing and frustration, I got some answers and it eventually worked. Heres what you'll need.

-Version 3.28 or better MPT (Live update from the MPT 3.11 application to version 3.24, then after restarting the app, liveupdate to ver 3.28). V360 support started in MPT version 3.28.

-USB data cable. The one that comes with the phone will work fine, although you need to set the phone's connection setting to "Data Connection" instead of the default "Memory Card" On the phonemenu/settings/connection/USB settings). Also, you will most likely have to install the driver for the cable, which Windows Xp may or maynot auto install when installing the MPT app. Under your hardware manager in XP, if you see the phone listed as a yellow questionmark, then you need to install the USB driver. This is found in the MPT folder in XP: (program files/mobile phone tools/inf/w2k_xp_usb_drivers). Select the appropriate folder (I listed w2k/xp here), and update the driver.

Next, erase any profiles you have created before this point, as they are most likely set up wrong.

Finally, start up the program and choose autodetect, if prompted.

So I got it installed updated and everything, works great with file transfer, phonebook and etc.

My only problem is when I am making a ringtone on multimedia and when I got to do a file save as, it is shaded out where I cannot do a save as.

So what is the problem I am having?

I think you have to use the "transfer to phone" option instead as "save as" (save as is a local save to your computer. If that is shaded out, then Idunno? Ill check it out later.

It won't let me transfer to my phone either...

I updated MPT to v3.28 (cant upgrade more cause of Win98 limitations) but I still cannot connect with the PC. It says that phone is not detectable or another application is using it.
I have uninstalled all other mobile phone software, what other application might be intervening???

1- Make sure that you have the proper drivers installed for the phone to act as a modem. For windows 2000 and XP this is the driver (USBMOT2000.INF). I don't know if this is going to work for 98. Just google "motorola win 98 driver". Once you get the right driver, you need to install it either when prompted by MPT, or when you plug in the phone and the hardware manager find it. Once again, I can't remember how win98 works, so you might have to manually find the V360 under the hardware manager, and point it to the folder containing the the driver file.

2- make sure that your phone is set to data/fax under the menu tree: settings/connection/USB settings. This is important because you want it to act as a modem for data communication, instead of acting like a removable storage drive (like a plug and play USB drive -off the transflash).

3- Wipe out any old MPT profiles made before these changes, as they may be set up incorrectly. If you want to skip this, then you need to select the proper modem in the MPT setup, and do a serial port scan (I can't remember the exact name for this, but you will have the option to check for modems pluged into serial ports [virtual or otherwise]). Once it finds the phone (assuming you have installed the correct drivers), the program will take it from there. If you do erase all older profiles, MPT will ask if you want to auto-detect upon a new setup. Select this option, and the rest is done for you.

3- skip all these headaches and upgrade to winXP (or at the very least 2000). Win 98 is fine for most senarios, but it wasn't built with USB plug in play in mind. Even if you get the right drivers, there is still s high likelyhood that the v360 wont work with 98.
