I really hate to be that guy....I have had my vx9800 for a week or so and been reading this website everyday tryin to figure and learn how to use bitpim to put ringers onto my phone. I am actually a pretty smart guy with electronics and computers and ****, but this is wooping my ***, I can not get Bitpim to even see my phone, and i hate to start another one of these threads, but i dont understand what everyone is saying, ive tried everything the best i can understand, i connected the phone via data cable to the comp and it detects it as a modem, i dotn need that, but it keeps wanting me to install the hardware, i dotn have, i think i installed the cd that came with the data cable correctly although at the end of the installation it didnt wanna do complete cauase it said it was approved by the windows logo, but i said finish anyways, so it should have. well i dont know how to make bitpim see my phone, thanks for any help...........

ionno which cable you're using, but with my futuredial cable from radioshack, all i had to do was to narrow the search for the phone in the bitpim program. The initial time, i didnt use "detect phone" rather, i used the search function and specifically put in "vx9800" and which usb port to look in. but before you start up bitpim or connect your phone to the usb cable, make sure its TURNED OFF. after you've connected to bitpim, then plug your phone into the cable first, then turn it ON. After it's on, search for your phone through bitpim.

My apologies, I was at a computer without bitpim at the time, so I was unsure of what to use. I went to edit->settings to manually browse and find the correct usb port and phone model for bitpim 0.8.04 to detect.
