time on recieved sms on motorola V3 is wrong.. can't fix

Hi
When I recieve a text the time that it says it is recieved is wrong. I tried reading through my manual to see what the problem was but it was all in vain. I also tried looking through my phone to see what settings needed to be changed but that lead me nowhere. I just got this phone for christmas and i'm not too familiar with it. The time is 3 hours ahead of my time, so I'm guessing theres a time zone setting I can't find. Please help if you know how to fix this.
