V551 multiple page text

Hi,
my wife and I are both using Moto V551 Cingular. When I send a long SMS to her, it is broken down as I send it and she receives it as a single long message. When she sends the same to me, I receive a bunch of short messages. Same phone, same company, different outcome? Is there a setting that allow my phone to put the message back together for easier reading? Looked everywhere but I am lost.
