I have a W600i and I'd like to use it as a PC modem... How do I do this?

Also, what technology does the phone use when it acts as a modem?

Anyone?

I've installed all the software from the W600i CD. Got the W600i modem drivers installed as well, just don't know how to use the phone as a modem. I've tried plugging the phone into the PC via USB and setting the phone to "Phone" mode, but that doesn't enable the phone as a modem.

What am I missing?

Well, you can create a dial-up networking connection to Cingular.

Username: ISP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password: CINGULAR1
Access number: *99***1#

Username and password is case sensitive.

thanks, i also found a complete guide at:

WARNING: anyone interested in doing this, make SURE you have a "Data Connect" plan or you will have to pay $0.01/KB, which is $10 per MB!

dumb question: would I get EDGE speeds if I were to use my W600i as a form of internet connection between my PC and my phone or would I be getting slowpoke dial-up speeds?

yes, if you use your W600i as a modem for your PC, you will get EDGE speeds

just make sure you have a Data Connect plan because even if you have an unlimited $20/month MediaNET plan, you will still be charged for any data transferred by your PC at the rate of $0.01 per KB and that adds up VERY quickly

the MediaNET plans cover data transferred ONLY by your phone itself, whereas the Data Connect plans cover data transferred by your phone itself as well as data transferred by your PC when it is using your phone as a modem
