Hey everybody, i don't know if i can revive my phone. I dropped it in the sink full of water yesterday, while it was on. I immediately removed it and took out the battery. Today when i put the battery in, all the phone does is vibrate non-stop and red light is on. Is there anything i can do to maybe fix this or is the phone done? Is there a reset button hidden anywhere? If it’s done, is there a way to retrieve all my numbers?

I couldn't help but laugh at the title.

Ah well, if it was on, it's probably done, but it's theoretically possible it could be salvaged.

If I were desperate, I'd disassemble the entire phone and place it in a very dry area for a few days before attempting to reinsert the battery and try again. Additionally, I've heard that soaking waterlogged components in high percentage alcohol (91%) would wash all the water out, and then evaporate. (Never tried that though) If it works at all, connect it to your PC via the data cable and BitPim, and do a root backup asap.

Don't bother returning it under warranty though. Exposrue to water isn't covered, and there's a label within that changes color when wet, so they'll know you got it wet.

You don't list what your service provider is, so this is just going to be thrown out there...

if the "color change" label is on your battery, go get a new battery... then take the phone in, and complain that the new battery fried your phone... you'll get another new battery, and a new phone... more than liekly, your going to say goodbye to your phonebook, pictures, ringtones, and other info saved on your phone... hope you didn't need them!

Alright fellas thanks a lot. I think what i'll try is soak it in 91% alcohol and just see what happens. If that wont work i'll just go and get a new phone, buy a cable off ebay and hopefully be able to get all my phone #'s off my phone. Thanks a lot for the suggestions.
BTW i have Verizon.

You can probably use CUPST to transfer everything from one phone to another if the old phone atleast turns on.

Pick up a phone off ebay, you can probably even change its ESN internally so you dont have to go through Verizon to change it.

There's no probably about it, but the application used for this is considered a bit of a hack tool, so you won't find it on this board.

I tried the 99% alcohol bath and even worse. After laying in alcohol for about an hour and a half, dried for the whole night plus half of day; the phone, when plugged, has the green light on. But when i try to turn it on, nothing happens. If its not plugged there's no green light, when i try to turn it on, holding power button, the green light goes on but no power. I doubt that i can take any phone numbers off there. What do you think i should do? I already got a new phone off ebay, it should come within few days. Should i disassemble it and clean everything by hand? Any suggestions are very appreciated! Thanks.

It would seem likely, because the phone was on when it was submersed, that a short occurred somewhere, and the phone is damaged. The clincher for this would be if BitPim/QPST cannot access the phone despite the LCD remaining dark. (Just in case it was the LCD alone)

If that's the case, there's no harm in dissasembling the phone, because its warranty would likely be voided. The only issue would be whether it's worth your time...

I had the same problem with my Audiovox 8450. I was on a white-water rafting trip this past summer and went swimming for over an hour with the phone in my pocket.

I took the whole thing apart and layed all the parts out in a dry place. Don’t be impatient. Leave them there for 3 or 4 days. These things are low voltage and any amount of moisture can cause problems. I put the phone back togeather and it has been 100% fine since then.
