i get the same msg & i cant figure it out. well im @ work now, ill try it later

I think you have the wrong port selected.
Did you run "detect phone" (edit menu)
Can you describe how your phone is connected to your PC.

Posted by: paedz718

my phone is connected to the pc thru a usb cable. im running bitpim 0.8.05 official. do i need to change any setting on the phone? i see there is a PC connection menu & i have it set to the deafult of USB. the cable shows up in device manager on my PC running WinXP as Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (COM 4) so the driver is properly installed. when i browse to File-Settings it shows COM 4 as available. this is what i get when i hit DETECT PHONE:
this is very frustrating...

it just seems to go on and on trying to detect

I realized i ordered the USB cable (mine has a BOX in the middle of the cable) for the LG VX5200/VX8100 & just noticed the label on this cable says for LG VX3200/7000. i installed the Prolific drivers and they installed fine. i wonder if this cable is incompatible? that would explain alot. (EDIT: seems this cable is fine) im going to try a different version of BitPim (bitpim-0.8.06-test2-unofficial) and try diff drivers other than the one i have installed (downloaded from a site, my cable had a sticker on it to dl the driver from here (home.netvigator.com/~wjcorp9/dku5). also when i go to device manager the driver shows it is set 9600 bits per second. i notice in the log, that it tries different port speeds (38400 baud, 115200 baud, 19200 buad but never tries that speed (9600)). i may have to exchange the cable.

my question is also:
1. do i need to change the PC Connection option on my phone to USB or RS-232C (Com Port)??
2. do i need to tweak the anything under the Service Menu - Data area (Port map data & diag and diag baud?

any help is appreciated, im frustrated

ok i use the usb ports in front of the computer it tells me to use either lucent win modem or com1 it says com4 not available unplugged all other usb items then on bitpim i set the phone to vx8100 even though the cable is not for it then i go to get phone data and select all the sources hit ok then it thinks awhile and says not responding while transitioning mode from none to brew

Got this working from the help of Artimis. I had to power down the phone & then power up with the cable inserted. i was trying many diff methods but didnt power down the phone...lol:

1) Turn off the phone
2) Plug the cable into the phone
3) Turn on the phone (the phone must boot up with the cable already inserted)

4) Go to the filesystem tab in Bitpim
5) Click the "+" sign and see if you connect

Also, in the service menu (Ok -> 0 -> 0000000) go to Data (4) -> Diag Baud (3) and select 115200.

Hope this helps.

prolific driver - home.netvigator.com/~wjcorp9/dku5 - download in the setup folder - PL-2303 driver installation file. once i installed the driver i rebooted the pc, then powered down the phone, connected the cable, power up the phone, open bitpim, autodetect and im good. no probs since.

i know the feeling

Posted by: proxlamus©

ohh boy i'm trying it out right now.. wish me luck

Posted by: proxlamus©

Ok.. I went into Control Panel, System, Device Manager and uninstalled the COM4 usb-serial modem..

I then installed the PL2303 driver.. restarted the computer..

I unplugged the phone and turned it off..

when the computer restarted I plugged the phone in, and turned it on..

I opened BITPIM and it would NOT detect the phone under AUTO..

So I chose Choose Port.. and I selected Lucent Win Modem.. and success!

Thanks guys!

this was with my VX9800 and Bitpim 0.8.06

Thanks...

was having same problem as paedz718

was about to throw phone through wall.... then i restarted it.

Posted by: btmlinedan

i AM about to throw this thing against the wall. it worked perfectly until i went to verizon (bc a speaker blew) and now cant get anything to work.

so first off. my phone shows up as LG CDMA USB modem under other devices. not sure if thats good or bad, and always tries to search for hardware and never finds it.

next i installed 2303 driver, and that did nothing. i followed everyone's instructions as far as turning off phone, plugging in, turning on phone...installing driver, restarting, off phone, unplug, yaada yadda yadda, still it comes up as cdma usb modem, not sure if thats good or bad, and bitpim wont recognize.

next: bitpim 8.07 never recognizes it under auto or com1, or any other com for tha tmatter. here is what bitpim is doing

I had the same problem and was going nuts!!! I surfed the web and found a place that said to remove the bluetooth drivers that came with the dongle and use the ones in XP. I removed my Toshiba drivers, inserted the dongle and let windows find it. Now the phone and bitpim work and I can quit yelling and pulling my hair. I have an lg vx8100. I was getting the same stuff when I tried having bitpim find my phone. I hope this really works for you too.
