Need Help With HipTop2 pls!

I recently purchased a Hiptop2 off another HOFO'er

I think I got burned.

The unit powers up and the activation screen comes on, I can by-pass the screen hitting top left + L .

Heres the problem, its been 48hrs and the phone will not even recieve phone calls, let alone pick up the data signal.
I have called FIDO my service provider initially, added the IMEI (they indicate that its not SOS, imei blocked) and to allow a couple hours for it to activate.

Now out of curiousity, i put my sim card in my friends HIPTOP, the activation screen appears to wait upto 48 hrs. But I AM ABLE TO MAKE AND RECIEVE CALLS ON HIS HIPTOP!

I have since called back my service provider and they ask me to find out the previous owners information, to possibly remove their logins and passwords, but they wont guarantee that it will work. But after contacting the seller, they claim their "Friend" ,who it originally belonged to, is on vacation and he cant find them, and he will not refund my money claiming that the phone is working.

ANY HELP OUT THERE?
The signal meter just keeps flashing an X over it and theres no signal.
Is the phone screwed, or is there a possible software fix?
I go into NETWORK STATUS, and theres "DENIED" under GSM registration.

If the seller is being sketchy about the source of the device, it's certainly cause for being concerned.

GSM Registration denied usually means your SIM or your account are invalid, or possibly the IMEI is invalid.

Since your SIM works in another device, it's probably okay. Even with a SIM not activated for hiptop data service, you should still get a phone icon.

Go into Settings/System Info and let us (well, me) know the Radio Firmware version - it's either a number or "unknown". Also be clear on what device this is - it's a real Fido HT2 and not a T-Mo Sidekick 2 right?

r u sure u cant make calls? what does it show in the signal bar area, what operator logo is it showing under the phone application, have u goine into manual network scan and chose Can Rogers Wireless Inc or Fido?
