Finally. You'd think a bluetooth flip would be obvious, given the surprising success of the v551 and RAZR. I hope they keep the keypad like it is in that pic, i like that. this could easily be my next backup.

Since the article says the 6102i *updates* the 6102, I would say that this would replace the existing model. I really can't see Nokia continuing to produce BOTH models with only the bluetooth difference. I would say Cingular will have this phone as soon as it is released.

As far as RF goes, this is a great phone. The best I've used to date.

I've been very pleased with my 6101. I agree, bluetooth should have been in this phone from the beginning. I just ordered a usb irda adapter for my 6101, but I'd much rather be using bluetooth.
I also like the new keypad layout. It's spread out like my 6101, but with a little more spacing between the keys.

I wonder if the firmware in this model will take care of the laggy menu and low volume issues. Turning the auto-volume control on does seem to help, but it could stand to be louder IMO.

I hope this phone ends up in the Cingular or T-Mo prepaid pack.

Man i'm pissed that they didnt just come out with Bluetooth on these phones in the beginning. I just got a 6102 about 2 months ago and i'm liking most things about this phone, except for a few things:

1. Lack of Bluetooth - meaning I have to deal with getting a CA-42 cable, which has been a pain in the a$$
2. Laggy OS - this is the slowest S40 I have used to date, but I still know pretty much every menu shortcut and I am still very fast with the phone. I just wish it ran a little smoother.
3. Crappy sounding ringtones - the MP3 ringtones sound pretty bad in my opinion, but I guess i'll have to deal with that.
4. LOW MEMORY! - The worst of all, no expandable memory or large internal memory. This means i'm constantly having to delete text messages, can't hold many MP3s, etc. That really annoys me, coming from a 7610 with 512MB and about 4000 text messages that I would have liked to keep.

Other than that, I really like the phone. It's my first flip, and i've liked the form factor so far, especially since my screen doesnt get scratched. The new version of S40 is pretty da mn robust i'd have to say, I really like what they've done with it... Now if they could SPEEED it up, that'd be swell.

On topic: I hope Cingular picks up the 6102i, i wouldn't mind having Bluetooth!

Estep,

1. yeah, bluetooth should have been on this phone from the get-go.
2. the laggy os I believe is due in part to the mass amount of carrier customization. Reason being is that my unbranded 6170 is internally nearly the same, but not near as cartoony, and obviously has zero branding.
3. no comment/not applicable
4. low memory is apparently a nokia standard on non-smartphones (and even some smartphones.)

has anybody had problems with the 6102 screen fading from black to white to black again after downloading something?

I called this 3 1/2 months ago when the phone first came out... knew it!!

Exactly. Honestly, i don't know why Nokia didn't just put Bluetooth there in the first place. Would have saved them all the trouble of re-releasing the same phone twice and the hassle of waiting for the carriers to pick it up!

And I agree with you, Cingular's branding and customization definitely affects the speed. Using a preloaded theme with a background got a little slow at times, so i'm using a theme that doesn't have one. It's also kind of a pain to find themes specifically for this phone... i've been downloading 6230i themes from zedge and they only work fully SOME of the time. Are there 6170 themes out by chance?

My next phone is definitely going to be a 6682, i'm just saving up for it right now. $140 so far... gotta keep up the hours at work baby!
