Motorola USB Data cable and V710 question

I purchased a Motorola SKN6311B data cable off a user on this message board. It works perfectly fine. I've seem edited my V710, and used MPT/BitPim and such.
However I'm having problems with disconnecting the cable from my phone. The button when pressed doesn't seem to lower the two metal latches enough to release the connector from the phone. I have to be quite rough with the phone and the connector to separate the two, having to angle the connector while connected to the phone, upwards get the latches to come loose.
Also, the data cable doesn't seem to charge the phone while connected.
Is this normal??? Or do i have a defective cable, and should get a new one?

okay, well i took the connector apart and found the button stubs that push down the latches were worn down, so i added some padding and taped up the connector. works okay now.
but i'd still like to know if i can get a data cable that charges the phone as well. anyone know of where i could get one, preferrably in locally in the GTA. does Motorola make one, or is it non-oem only?
