i finaly got my mpx220 unlocked back in the mail from the unlocking place and i wanted to put on the new ROM 1.49 came with pre-installed 1.43 but i wanted the ROM with WM10 the only thing the surreal web page that has the rom software is down.

i have the actual rom 1.49 BUT i need the Motorola Update Wizard..I cannot download the update wizard..can u please email me the rom software to toy9cito@optonline.net PLEASE>...

I recently got the mpx220 in holland and I think it has a 1.15 ROM version. P-L-E-A-S-E!! Someone kindly mail any stable ROM update to me at damus@mail.com. Cant seem to find any anywhere!

1.49 doesn't have wm10, only the asian roms have that. I suggest 3.46, but if you want the newest it's 3.51 (3.53 is actually 1.53 mislabled, it doesn't have wm10).

They have stopped registering new members and someone said that the webpage with the ROMS was down anyway(like most others that have it!). I wonder why? Is it like....illegal or something to offer it on websites?........anybody?

i do have 3.46 still, but it's bigger than my email attachment allows or that my ISP ftp space allows. i'm not sure about the legal aspect of sharing the files.

If it displays a message about putting in a different sim then you need to unlock it. If it just won't connect but you know the sim is good I'm not sure what to tell you.

I think you are going to have to download it from one of the rapidshare links or from surrealnetworks, if you have a login there...the files are too big to email, the ROM files themselves are ~25mb, too big for an attachment w/ most email services.

As far as which to use, again, some research will be necessary, you have to make your own decisions...if you search this form, or google, the ROM version and MPx220, you'll find a ton of info about the differences, limitations, bugs, etc. in each ROM and from there you can decide how much work you want to put into it.

If you want to use an Asian ROM, be prepared to tweak the registry significantly...it requires a bit of work. The 1.xx ROMs are easier to work with, but don't come w/ WMP10. But again, some reading will be necessary on your part to decide which you want to try.

ive downloaded two registry editors from links on this forum and i cant seem to get either to work. neither have an executable file in them to run. is there a link to another program to use?

have you tried smartione, it runs on your PC, over activesync, to the MPx220.

i don't have the link handy, but if you google 'smartione', it'll take you to the website, then to a forum where you can download the orig app plus a minor update that fixes a couple issues.

i like it better than most other registry editors i've tried, especially the 'on phone' editors, those are a pain to use.

PS...did you decide on a ROM to try ?

Smartione will always give you a warning about out of date version (at least it has for me), but it will work. I prefer mobile registry editor (also run from the pc), but I don't have a link handy.

I hate to sound like just another n00b begging for ROMs, but I'll be damned if I can find one to download. I've searched for days. Surreal Networks is requiring registration but they are no longer accepting them... a good catch 22 if you ask me.

So, is there any place to obtain these or is someone going to have to email them to me? I have a gmail account so attachment size is not a problem (at least for these ROM files. Don't send me a couple gigs worth of them though :P)

My email address is my username here at gmail.com if anyone would be awesome enough to send me a 3.45/3.46 rom and the offline updater. I've got a copy of it already but I don't know how trustworthy it is so if possible I'd like a copy of one that is known to work.

i have 3.45 and 3.46, and the updater...i have a gmail account, but never use it, wasn't aware it allowed a file that large, so I can send it that way.

it may be the weekend before i can send it...turkey day is upon me and i have a grocery trip and cooking to assist with before tomorrow...and i'm at work right now.

if i don't get it to you by thurs night or friday, PM me to remind me, i may well forget about it.

No one can email the roms as the file is too big for most emails. This has already been stated in this thread, on this page no less. If you let me know which rom update you want I will upload it and the updater to rapidshare.

From what i've read 3.5 seems to be the best. What do you think? I've got 1.280 now and looking to fix the volume issue.

I agree w/ genaldar, nobody I've really run into is running anything newer than 3.46 in the asian ROMs. I never even tried them, the 3.45 and 3.46 are virtually the same and everything works wonderfully on the MPx220 w/ one of those ROMs.

I tried the 1.47 and 1.49 and had some lockup issues w/ both, so I'd suggest the 1.43 if you don't go w/ one of the Asian ROMs. But I know some folks are running 1.47/1.49 w/ no trouble, but they didn't work well for me. Dunno what the difference was, maybe something else I was running didn't like 1.47/1.49.

I ran 3.46 for 5 months and overall liked it once I spent 2 hours hacking it apart. However I found for me that it was unstable and many apps completely started locking it up. Even after a fresh hard reset I quickly started having problems with even the newest version of SP Task manager.

I am now running 1.49 and I am regretting that fact that I ran 3.46 for so long. My phone is def more stable, and sound quality is better esp with my headset. Volume is almost as loud as 3.46 but a lot clearer. Id def suggest 1.49 for anyone who doesnt want to worry about there phone, or anyone without the skills to truely mod it or hack the registry apart.

PS 1.47 and all other lower roms worked like complete crap on my mpx220.

My sister's phone has 1.49 and it does have some advantages, but mine is very stable on 3.46. The only program that crashed on me was SP Task Manager when I told it to kill apps. I just switched to Oxios' similar apps and have been happy ever since.

I had the opposite experience w/ 1.47 and 1.49 from the above post. 3.46 has always been stable for me, even w/ all my software loaded...never locks up, never crashes, unless obviously I hammer it or do something odd in the registry...but under normal use, the 3.46 has been great.

I had both 1.47 and 1.49 cause frequent lock-ups and reboots of the phone. With 1.49, I was finally able to narrow it down to something between it an Chronos (3rd party alarm app). But, everything ran fine on 3.46.

I think it's gonna be a mixed bag...you are going to find people w/ leanings toward different ROM versions, each person used different software, loads it in a different order (which shouldn't matter, but it does sometimes), and makes different reg tweaks to each one...so anything can happen.

Depends on what kind of lock. If it's only app locked you can use sda unlocker to take care of it. But if it's sim locked you need to find a service (no need to send it out, they can do it remotely).

Ok I think its a Sim lock I have found some programs to unlock it like Motorola Phone Support Tools 7.2.3 I hope thats the right program to use.

Anyway I have Motorola Mobile Phone Tools too so one might unlock it..
I also have p2k tools sim editer and such..

I have also downloaded the two files that where hosted here 149 and 346 I tried to load (test run) the Windows rom flasher but the file extension on
them are not *.mlf files do i just rename them?

And this phone is not a v3 right what ever that means. I have a unlock tool just
for that...

And I have a program called test point..

You have to use the Motorola offline updater. If you get that and 1.49 and 3.46 from me they will work (they're what I've used).

So i start the program and click the next button couple of times then it gets to the what firmware do you want to load.

I click that and it puts up the open dialog box and it asks for file name I goto the dir where the file is but it does not show up because the file type is a *.mlf file do i just type in the file I want to use?

The files are 1_49.7z and Asian_3_49.7z so do i rename them to 1_49.mlf or just type 1_49.7z in the open dialog box?

Sorry for all the problems I just need a little direction..

You have to extract the roms into folders (.7z is a compressed file). If you don't have software that supports 7zip try tugzip (it's free and awesome, shell extensions don't work on xp 64 though) or 7zip (free and open source even has a 64 bit version). Of course all the big ones support 7z because it's an open standard (winzip, winrar, winace, powerarchiver, etc.).
