Does anyone have any information whether Sprint will carry the Blackberry 8700?

Posted by: 0siris

The 8700 is a GSM device. Sprint is CDMA. So no, the 8700 is not coming to Sprint.

the 8700s isn't scheduled to be out till the second half of 2006

Not according to phonescoop:

http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=832

It's a GSM phone. GSM does not work on CDMA networks like Sprint.

There have been rumors of an 8700-series CDMA device. Since there are 72xx and 71xx devices for both networks, I wouldn't be terribly surprised

Osiris - the 8700c and 8700t are GSM the 8700v and 8700s are CDMA, the CDMA versions come second half of 2006

Rumor versus documentation.

If it happens, great. Anything not firmly announced is rumor. Vapor. If you want to pin your hopes on it (anyone remember the Kyocera 7135? Samsung I700?) go for it.

Something has to come out for Sprint if Sprint expects to keep the business customers. I don't know whether it will be a 8700 or not, but I find it hard to believe that the 7250 would be the last Blackberry Sprint carries.

That is certainly a fair assumption. I thought, however, that Sprint had released the 7130.

Not certain of that.

Sprint has only released the 7250 and 7750.

Nextel's biggest BB custo was the GOV do you really think sprint would stop carrying the BB and not get the new unit now that they own nextel and basically all GOV contracts?

wait till second half of 06 then tell me if i am wrong or right! I wont be wrong

Posted by: hatoncat

1) You're right
2) That's why Nextel BB's lead Sprint BB's
3) I wouldn't put it past RIM to make a dual-IDEN/CDMA BB just because of that... or at the least, a Moto dual-net handset with RIM software

Posted by: 0siris

While there are certainly some differences, I don't see *enough* of a difference for Sprint to move to this 8700. I'd expect to see the 7130 before something like this.

1) of course
2) i beleive that nextel period has the most BB's sold for any carrier
3) the hybrid version with direct comnnect wont appear till early 07, for now it will just be CDMA

a) the faster processor and data speeds alone ustify the new model, the much better LCD, speakerphone and few other details are icing on the bltch!

b) the blackberry wanna be toy things like this are not a competing product to the likes of the corporate BB line, do not be confused by the similar names.

Sprint will be releasing a 71xx series device in Feb that will have EVDO 1x on it.

Posted by: proaud

Where are you getting your info from?

Posted by: alafferty

my company has signed a deal with Nextel and we just deployed 600 7100i phones. I was talking to RIM and Sprint because i am interested in a 71xx phone on the sprint network and they told me that one will be out in the next 4 to 6 weeks. It will be very simular to the verizon BB.

Posted by: proaud

Please let me know when it comes out! I will be all over it!

Posted by: alafferty

i sure will. I have one of the 7100i phones and the 7100 series bb are the slickest BB out todate. The 8700 is a cool device as well and sprint will end up with a version of that later this year but the size and technology of the 7100 is what i really like.

Posted by: Raveman

The 8700s will be out in or around Oct 2006 and will have the same functionality as th 8700c except it will run on the Sprint CDMA platform and be capable of EVDO at 5 times the speed of the GSM Cingular EDGE network
