V600 not charging through USB

I got a USB cable to hook up my V600 to my PC. I thought it would be able to charge the phone but it doesn't. Is this not a feature of the USB cable?

My v635 can't do that, so I believe its not a feature.

Is it being recognize by your computer? Did you install MPT or any driver softeware? It will not charge until you do so.

Neonbright is absolutely right. You have to load the drivers first.

it won't charge even if you do have all the right drivers, only the motos with the mini usb charger port will charge via pc. the "regular" style motos will not

Absolutely correct

I have two Motorola USB cables. One was from eBay. The other came with MPT.

Both used to charge while connected but now the one that came with MPT won't charge anymore. I can still use it for data though.

the V600 uses the plug in that is not mini-usb shaped. I have MPT installed and it recognizes the device correctly and I am able to get pictures on and off it and such.

Is it positive that this is not a feature of the V600 type connectors? Kinda a bummer, would be much easier in travel to just have my laptop and charge my phone off of it instead of a separate charger.

Has the MPT be updated? Maybe that will work...

Both of my cables, the mini usb and the old ce connector, will charge while hooked up to my computer's usb port. I did short out two of the pins on my ce cable. My computer wouldn't find my phone originally even with the drivers, but I found a pin diagram that someone else had the same problem and fixed it with shorting out two pins. I just figured that was what I got for not buying an actual motorola. The only thing is, if I turn on the phone with the cable hooked up...it always comes up in bootloader mode on the one with the ce bus. It does charge my V600, V551, and V400.

there are two varieties of usb cables - one charges and one does not. the one that charges connects a usb pin with power to a pin on the phone. i don't remember the pins, but i know this is the case. i got a charging cable from ebay, but when the phone switched into charging mode, the usb connection was lost for a while. i didn't want that happening while i was modding, so i did a search here, found the pin-outs, opened the mototola end of the cable and clipped the wire that supplied the charging power. i'm sure you simply have the plain cable, often called a data cable as opposed to a charging cable.
