I am currently a verizon customer in contract. But that is nt the question right now. I used to have a sidekick II but I sold it, and I am missing its spot in my pocket. (haha) I am wondering which would be better to do to go on a prepaid plan or a contract. I am just going to use it for AIM and text messaging. I currently have the 15 dollar in txt plan. And I can lower that to the 5 dollar one if I get the sidekick II. So what do you think I should do prepaid or not?

If you have $ to buy a prepaid sidekick, go with that. Its cheaper per month in the long run if you dont use voice minutes.

Prepaid minutes are cheaper, too, unless you get a voice plan and add the sidekick data plan to it.

contract Sidekick, data only=$29.99 + the usual taxes and fees, probably $33-34 total, plus 20 cents per minute for voice.

contract Sidekick as an add on to a regular voice plan=$19.99, voice calls are under whatever plan you choose.

prepaid Sidekick=$1.00 per day whether used, or not. The only tax is your state sales tax if it applies to prepaid phone cards. Voice calls are 15 cents per minute.

I don't think you can get handset insurance under the prepaid plan, and if you have to do a warranty exchange, you have to send the unit to them first. Under a contract, they send you the replacement first.

The contract plan has a wider coverage, at least for voice. I don't know if data works in roaming areas. Prepaid only works in native T-Mobile areas.
