(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Are dummy phones essentially a regular housing without the internals? I would like to replace my phone housing. Can I do that by buying a dummy phone?

usually no...i know for sure the razr housing is different than the dummy razr...take a look at www.cnn.cn to see if they have what you need...

I have a V710 but I was asking in general if Motorola dummy phones use real housings.

not really. they don't have the clear part where the screen is...

what exactly is different on the dummy?? it just seems like it would cost even more to try make 3 different housings for the v3 black silver and dummy... i hate motorola sometimes

the differences is that the dummies dont have the neccesary parts in the housing and it sometimes has stuff glued to the housing so it wont work. its less of pain to just buy a OEM housing from cnn.cn

the dummies are typically glued together and have no screw holes

the interior of the housing is not able to fit in the chips... just the metal weight

screen area isn't clear

I dropped my V3 on a cobblestone street and really damaged one of the hinge screws and badly nicked the antenna cover (bottom mouthpiece area). I bought a V3 dummy from ebay and was able to use a lot of the parts.

The screen cover was screwed together so I saved the screws and the screw hole covers (easily lost on a V3).

The battery cover was glued on (double stick tape). It was worthless when removed as it had no springs for the latch lock and there was no alignment "key".

The front bezel, inside screen bezel, frame, hinges and keypad (foil) were all factory issue and I used them to refurb my unit to like-new.

The interior screen and cover screen are obviously fake and unusable.

i need a keypad housing for my v3. does the dummy phone have a useable keypad housing and hinges? does it have screw holes?

On the dummy I have, the entire housing, hinges, spring closing mechanism were all useable. The keypad foil is an overlay and is also useable, but does not include a working button and lighted keypad underneath.

You can buy a lot of parts from Denis at cnn. Good prices.

PS, the membrane keypad and backlight is GLUED to the phone housing. My backlight died on my old V3 and I ordered one from cnn. The old one tore apart when pulled it off the frame...
