Hey guys, I was looking at buying a 7100g, but I have a few questions.

Is $300 too much for a brand new one, and are you able to use MP3s as ringtones? Are there any good sites with programs and games to download/buy for the 7100g? Thanks!

Yes $300 is too much. No mp3 ringtones. You can try handago if you wanna buy stuff for it. Or google Blackberry downloads and games.

New question...do you NEED a data plan to use a blackberry with Rogers? I don't have one yet, and I'm gonna have this BB for a bit before I get a data plan...will it not work at all?

You only need a BB data plan to do anything that needs data such as IM programs, email and web. you can pop your sim and the phone and SMS part will work fine. And $300 CDN still seems high for a BB 7100g. I got mine for $180 USD NEW

You won't be able to use .mp3 ringtones you can use .adp ringtones if you wanted. The .adp ringtones I used when I was using the 7100r sounded really good.

Alright thats good then... last thing, if there are any 7100g owners out there, is the phone really as big as it looks? Is it pocketable at all?

Wirelessly posted (BB 7100g w/ 7100x housing: BlackBerry7100/4.0.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0)

It is the size of a typical candybar phone or just a tad bigger. I don't know about being pocket friendly since I use a leather holster to take advantage of the sleep function.

The 7100 is small enough to fit in the palm of my hands considering that my hands are very small....It kinda reminds me of those wider nokia phones...I love my blackberry, and I wouldn't trade it in for anything else! I'm getting the new 8700 very soon, so i'll have to give up my 7100...also, suretype is cool because it takes less keystrokes to type..i don't mind suretype as opposed to qwerty....

I like the 7100 because it is easier to operate with one hand. I think I will hold out for a 7100 series form factor with EDGE Hopefully RIM is working on that as we speak
