VX3300 ringtone problems

Ok, my cable works fine and I can get into my phone no problem.

I followed the direction:

Get your midi file, load it up in your favorite hex editor

- Using a hex editor, insert 27 bytes at the beginning of the file.
- Save the file, check on its file size (this includes the 27bytes you just added, so if it was 1200bytes to begin with, its now 1227bytes)

- Byte 1,2 = Total file length + 1 (byte 1 is LSB, byte 2 is MSB)
(so open up windows calculator and plug in 1228, make sure its in scientific mode, then click on the radio butt on for hex, it will be 04 CC, plug that in bytes 1 and 2 respectively)

- Byte 3 = 00
- Byte 4 = 01

- Byte 5,6 = Total file length + 1 - 27 (byte 5 is LSB, byte 6 is MSB)
(For the 1227byte file it would be 04 B1 in bytes 5 and 6 respectively.)
This is the length of the midi portion of the file + 1

- Byte 7-26 = Ascii name of ringtone (unused bytes can be 00)
- Byte 27 = 00
- Rename the file to the name of the file you want to replace on your phone (mediamelxxx.dat where, xxx starts as 000 then to 001 for the next ring, etc..)

Using the bitpim/qpst file system view, put these files in your /sms/ directory and reboot your phone

and the file shows up in MyMelodies like it says it will, but they never actually play. Name is fine, so I'm wondering if I'm messing up the hex values for 1,2, 5 and 6 because my midi file is only 40 bytes. Its not a sound problem as the file plays fine on the pc, speakers on the phone make no noise. I've tried files under 30seconds and over, file sizes around 200bytes up to 1200 and even an mp3 into the 2,000,000s. Nothing seems to get them to play, anyone know what I can try?

How did you get into your phone? I have bought a cable, and I can't find a driver for it, I think thats my problem.

As for your question, first, double check you've edited everything right. If then you can't get your method to work, I hear that the method here:

works great.

Now please try to answer my question! thanks

i used the prolific drivers, but i downloaded them about a year ago. i can upload them if you can't find them around. ill try that method tomorrow, as I haven't beem able to get the hex edited files to work. the only thing i can think of is that there's a problem with the file being too small (not 1,000 bytes) and as a result im putting in the wrong hex values in for 1, 2, 5, and 6. I tried to add bytes to the end of the file to get the size up but that didn't play either.

I would be delighted if you uploaded them. Even e-mailed them to me. Ferrari321@gmail.com
Also, does your cable have a usb to serial conversion box in the middle?
thanks

Yeah, you could also try a different hex editor if you're not going to try the other way.
