Problem w/ Data Cable & LG VX3300

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hi. I got my cell phone cable in the mail today, ordered off of ebay. This phone is a vx3300, and I received a cable for the vx7000, which fits perfectly. I also got a driver CD, which I have rendered completely obsolete thanks to the usefulness of it. I have tried communicating with the phone through several programs & drivers, including BitPim 0.62, Bitpim 8.05, and I have also tried steps in this link:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=451385
Nothing seems to be working! Is there any solution? I can give more info if needed. Thanks in advance!

well i have a diff phone (vx8100) but maybe i can offer a few tips:

make sure you have the correct drivers installed first, if it came w/ a cd then use that. go to your device manager and verify under ports that you see a com port w/ your phone connected when plugged in. then i found that i you open bitpim and then power down your phone, connect the cable, then power up your phone and try detect my phone bitpim connects. b/c i have the 8100 it can auto-detect my port. you may have to set it manually. try it out, maybe it will help. i found the answer to my probs here as well and it all had to do w/ powering the phone down & up with the cable b/c it is a usb to serial connection. it wont auto-detect (plug n play) like a usual usb device.

I think another problem is that it can't open through any port. COM1 is the only one on my Device Manager list, and it can't open in bitpim.
any other driver/bitpim ideas?

thanks again

PS> Doing the restart, replug method that you mentioned didn't work, and the driver doesnt install correctly on my computer.

Please help me out!

You must install the drivers first. BitPim, etc. can only find your phone via the operating system, and the OS can't find your phone without a driver.

The driver will set up the virtual com port for you. Typically com 4 if it's the only (or first) phone on your system.

Good luck. 3300 is a sweet little phone. It's like the 3100 have for for a spare and still think of as the ideal phone. So small!

I too bought the LG VX7000 data cable make#CLGE7000DAT1 INSTEN from Ebay from the iTrimming seller.

the Cable came in a sealed package WITH a driver CD, these Drivers appear to be the same ones that I have found on the web at cellphonemall.net

The problem is that All I can get the cable to do is CHARGE to phone.
I have installed several different sets of drivers, including the ones on the CD, the ones from the cellphonemall site and even the datapilot ones.

Always I have uninstalled the previous drivers and rebooted the computer but None of them have made any difference in recognizing the cell phone. Powered on or off.

I have the Bitpim latest ver. installed but it doesn't offer any COM port that would connect to the cell phone, nor does the device manager show any new COM Ports.

I am getting quite frusturated.

What tricks have worked?
Am I using the wrong drivers?
Please don't tell me the cable is junk!

It seemed like some one here has had success but I can't find any explaination as to what they did.

Please post what needs to be done.
you can also email me directly as cloudycloud47x2@yahoo.com

Thank you.

i read in here on another thread that the usb cable needs to be a serial/usb. it should have a square piece in the middle. if it doesn't then it will only work with certain phones. i don't know if it's true, but i have 2-8100s, 2-3300 and one 5200 on my plan, all lgs and the only ones that work for charging and downloading are the 8100s and the 5200. the 3300s onle charge! If you find out i'm wrong, let me know.

So your saying you have the USB/Serial cable and it works on the other phones but not the 3300? Or are you saying you just have the USB cable and it works for downloading and uploading on the others but not the 3300? Thanks! TJ

Posted by: MGritts22

Exactly. It would be a best bet to either sell it to a user in this forum (for the 5200 or the 8100) or put it back on ebay for those causes.

Good luck- I know that's what I'll be doing.

if the INSTEN cable doesn't work on the 3300 could someone post which CABLE MODEL # DOES work on the 3300?

Brand Name?
model#
approx $ cost

Or if someone knows of some work around which involves using the insten cable that would be helpful also.

Thank you.

i have a USB cable not usb/serial and the usb cable works for the 8100 and the 5200. the 3300 just charge.

I have the same issue with this cable and the LG3200 has anybody figured out the problem or do i just have myself a usb charge cable? because I don't feel like wasting money on another cable if it won't work.

Your phone can transfer data via USB, BUT you must use a special cable that is specific to the data circuitry and wiring in your phone. There are many available: just Google for "usb cable vx3200" to find a few.

Note: a visible clue: if your cable doesn't have a box or swollen bulb (like it has swallowed a small rodent) in the middle of it then you most likely do not have a cable specifically for your phone.

If the cable you have has a phone model # label on it (most do) then Google for that model cable like this "model-name-number usb cable compatible". The responses you find will tell you which other models your cable is designed to work with.

When you order a new cable, make sure that it specifically says that it is a data cable that is compatible with your make & model of phone.

Good luck!

I would really make sure that the cable you are ordering is specifically for your model of phone.

Technically, you could fry your phone using a cable that only fits the socket. The pin-outs are different from phone to phone.

Although the cable for 6100 fits many models (6100,7000,8000,8100 and 9800), that doesn't mean that it fits others too. It might, but I wouldn't take that chance. It most cases, they won't warranty your phone if you fry it by using aftermarket chargers or data cables....

More than likely, you havent fried your phone because it is charging. The charging circuit is the one that would cook your phone if it went to the wrong place. Be careful..

Hey guess what- I filed a paypal dispute because the item description said I could transfer ringtones/wallpapers with the cable they sent, and I can get my money back now! Hooray! Once I get an OEM cable, I'll write up a tutorial for the people having trouble and warn all about buying a Non-OEM cable.

Thanks for the help & support, guys!

Google MobileAction.com. They have the right data cable for the VX3300. Be advised that you can only transfer Contacts and Calender data. You can download thr drivers and software from there website.
