Just got my Nokia 6682 and LOVE IT!

Today, I finally got my Nokia 6682 after weeks of searching in local stores since I found out they dropped the price to $249 without a contract while supplies lasted. Thing is, by the time I found out, supplies were pretty much gone everywhere around me. I called every store in Miami and visited about half of them and none of them had the phone. Most said they hadn't had it in a few months and all said they wouldn't have it again. I kept calling everywhere until I found one last one in Stuart, 2 hours from Miami.

So I made sure they held it for me today and made it a field trip. 2 hours North and then 2 hours South in traffic, but it was worth every minute!

Mind you, I am coming from a similar handset, the Nokia 7610, so I am quite familiar with the Series 60 environment, but this phone is much better in many ways. Only thing is it's thicker, heavier and, in my opinion, not as beautiful, different and eye-catching as my black and red 7610. Looks aside, the phone is a little jewel with it's new version 8 of Symbian, its hot-swappable RS-MMC compartment, its 1 MP camera, now with flash (great photos!), it's much louder and clearer speaker, its sharper 262K-color screen, its much faster EDGE Class 10, its new music player a-la iTunes (minus the genre mode), ... and so on and so on...

I am not going to review this phone now, as #1, I have used it for a few hours only, and #2, plenty of people have done that before me.

I have had the Audiovox SMT5600 for 2-3 weeks now and I really am disappointed in Windows Mobile. I even bought its successor, the Cingular 2125 two nights ago (for which I paid $502.89 after taxes, no commitment) and, although the improvements are noticeable, it's still the same O/S and the same phone without the o-so-useful dedicated keys Symbian handsets have. So I went and returned it today before I got the Nokia. Next return will be the Audiovox.

No more Windows Mobile for me as long as Symbian is in the market.

was the $249 (no contract) price though a corp store or was it an agent?

I purchased the new HP 6500 iPaq last week, after 4 days with the device, I took it back and got a 6682. I'm much happier.

I love my phone to!

Did you get the newer software 4.62.0 vs the old 3.01.1?

mine is the old firm but I don't have really any issues with it at all. I have the 3G sim to. I work for Cingular, so I've had the phone since launch.

Corporate store only. Agents still have it for $299 with a 2-year contract.

Hey, you cannot have your cake and eat it! It's the older firmware. If I start to have problems (I haven't read here enough to know what these problems are), I will send it to Cingular for upgrade. I'd take it somewhere else where they'd also unlock it, but I would void the warranty and I really have no use for an unlocked phone as of yet.

What exactly are the problems people are having with the old firmware? I need to tell the Cingular rep something.

"Martin Fields"? Is that a brand of screen protectors?

Wait?
6682 $249 without a contract?

Yeah just last week people were saying $611 with no contract, what is this $249 stuff?

Posted by: The Mac Ace

its cing branded and locked, and martin fields is a brand of screen protector-they look AMAZING-the screen appears BRIGHTER and CLEARER, and you can't see that it's there!

as far as the problem say you're having problems with it and your sim card talking, and you already got the sim replaced and you heard the new firmware fixes it. just say it also crashes a lot if you try to run too many apps

apparently the $249 (no contract) price is only in the south FL market area. so if you're not in that area, you're basically SOL like the rest of us.

I wasnt a huge fan of my 6682, but I'd damn sure buy another one if I could get one for $249 w/ no contract. (oh, and using my friend's 30% company discount would help out too. )

I didnt want a 6682 either but for $249 w/o contract (even tho I am without a job) I'd buy one now.

Oh well.

South Florida, while supplies lasted (depleted already, I got the last one) and only in corporate stores.

Try your local stores. Even if they say they don't have any, ask them to look at the price grid and see what it says. Here in Miami, their guides say $249 w/o a contract, but they also say "Do not order." You never know, though. They might get some more soon, hopefully with the new firmware and hopefully at the same price, although I doubt it.

Good luck!

Thanks. Might just do that. It's just had to part from my new toy for 2 weeks to use it.

By the way, I have noticed some of my applications do close by themselves if I have 2 or 3 running at the same time.

How do you like your 8801?

Posted by: The Mac Ace

xbm sends you a new one first..... then you ship yours back
i LOVE the 8801
and yes if ur apps close themselves then u need the new one

God, how can I forget??? Yes, you're right. I sent my 6230b with the infamous BT problem to XBM three times before I decided to send it to Nokia instead. Still, I had to send it to Nokia 3 times too until they decided they couldn't upgrade to a newer firmware because if was a Cingular-branded phone and they offered a trade: a 6620. I turned it down, complained, sent letters, etc... Until I got what I wanted: a 7610, which I have been using for almost a year now.

Anyways, that was off-topic. Do you happen to have the number of the XBM department? I lost it.

Posted by: The Mac Ace

nope, not on hand. call 611 and ask for it
i'm a t-mo guy
if you asked me for the number of ANY t-mo internal department i'd have the direct one!
(still seeking saves-willing to trade!)

Cool. I see we share some past/present phones: T68, 6800, 6230 and 6682. I wish I could afford to share the 8801 too!

Perhaps you can buy 6682 phones that have firmware with known problems like the OP. Just find a store that wants to unload its dubious stock at a discount.

Hey, man, I went to the MF site, but cannot find these protectors. In fact, I didn't find anything specifically for Nokia phones. What's the deal?

Posted by: VIPMobile117

I was thinking about getting this phone too seems pretty good, unfortunately my next phone would probably be the Nokia N-71.

If you can afford an N71 (no dash in the model number), then there's nothing unfortunate about not getting the 6682.

Try searching for 6680 on MF site.

Just got one (actually two) ... but it has that cutout for the 6680 forward-facing camera.

Did yours?
