Razr won't turn off, can't talk, odd date

My gf's razr won't turn off, has the date 9/17/00 on the screen, and when she answers the phone I can't hear her. She can hear me but I'm not hearing her.

Any suggestions?

first did she try taking the battery out? mine will freeze up lots of times. i just take the battery out and start all over again.

my provider rep (cingular) also told me to turn off the phone everyday for about 20mins. that allows any updates cingular is sending to be processed. that is what i was told anyway.

I took it to cingular and they took the battery out, reset it and changed the SIM card. But that made the problem worse and got it stuck on a blank screen. They just gave me a new phone.

The lady told me if there were custom mp3 ringtones on the phone [there were a couple], sometimes the file sizes were too big and would cause the phone to malfunction. I guess this could have been the reason. But I told her I have way more on my phone [she only had like 2 or 3 and were very small files] and they were bigger file sizes. That's a good idea about turning it off 20 minutes a day. I'm gonna start doing that.
