Broken v710: possible to read text messages?

My v710 from Verizon broke in half a few months ago. The phone still works, but the screen is no longer attached to the phone. I use the phone with speaker phone and through a headset. I would like to be able to somehow read my text messages that I have gotten. Is there any way to do this by somehow downloading the text messages to my computer or getting the phone to speak them like it speaks my contacts in the phonebook listing?

I have the appropriate cable, but I only have access to a Mac...

Are the txt messages stored in a readable format at all?
