Please Help with my Razr V3 / MPT / BT

I'm trying to use MPT with my Razr V3 but can't get a connection. I don't have a USB cable but do have a bluetooth dongle (not the Motorola one - this one is an INSTEN brand, from iTRIMMING website).

Do I install the drivers that came with my dongle first? Or do I let MPT handle the setup?

All the guides/FAQ's I've been reading refer to using a USB cable and not bluetooth.

Thanks for your help!

MPT won't install the BT software nor set up the phone for you, you'll have to do it manually first. Pair to your phone using your BT software, and start the DUN connection. This should create a Bluetooth Modem. Once the BT modem is in your computer, then MPT should detect the phone, or you can set up MPT manually to use the BT modem. What version of MPT do you have installed? That will change the process needed to set up MPT with your phone correctly.

I'm using MPT version 4.0.4b. My O/S is WIN XP SP2

OK - I've bonded/paired OK using the BT software, but am having trouble setting up the DUN. I'm getting a connection box asking for username and password and also a place to put in a phone number. No matter what I try I get an error connecting.

When you start DUN, it will try to connect to internet... just cancel that window. The BT modem should still be set up in your computer (you can verify by going into device manager and looking under modems). Let MPT try to detect phone, and let it time out. When it asks if you want to connect to Live Update to update your MPT, say No. Then it should ask you if you want to manually install your modem, say yes. Select Bluetooth modem in the list, and there should be no problem. If BT modem is NOT in the list, or it is, but can't communicate, then the issue is your BT. Try that, and let me know what happens.

OK - so I checked in Device Manager and I have 4 modems listed:
Bluetooth DUN Modem
Bluetooth FAX Modem
Bluetooth LAP Modem
Standard Modem

Back in MPT, per your instructions, I select to manually install the modem. There are 4 devices in this list:
Other device
Standard Modem
Bluetooth FAX Modem
Bluetooth DUN Modem

I choose Bluetooth DUN Modem and click Next. It then trys to detect.. my phone lights up, the program lists the following as its detecting:

* Modem identification
* Opening Bluetooth DUN Modem
* Modem properties
--> AT+MODE=2
OK
+MBAN: Copyright 2002-2002 Motorola, Inc.
* Wait 3000
--> AT+CGMI
+CGMI: "Motorola CE, Copyright 2004"
OK
--> AT+CGMM
+CGMM: "GSM900", "GSM1800", "GSM1900", "GSM850", "MODEL=V3/P"
OK
--> AT+MCMA?
ERROR
--> AT+MODE=0
OK
* Wait 500
--> AT+GMI
+GMI: "Motorola CE, Copyright 2004"
OK
--> AT+GMM
+GMM: "GSM900", "GSM1800", "GSM1900", "GSM850", "MODEL=V3/P"
OK
* Closing Bluetooth DUN Modem

I then select Next and get the Model Selection screen. Under Device manufacturer I have 4 choices: Bluetooth Adapter, Motorola CDMA, Motorola GSM and Motorola TDMA.
I assume this is where I select the Motorola GSM, scroll down to V3 under device model then select Next?

Exactly. Once you do that, MPT should open and connect to your phone. Let me know if it works!
