Can I read PDFs?

Is there any way I can load PDFs onto my 1gb SD card and read them on my Treo 650?

Yup...Get a program called PalmPDF...You can get it at mytreo.net

OK, good. Went to mytreo.net and downloaded PalmPDF. Now I've got two more questions:

1. Do I put it onto the expansion card, or right into the Treo itself?

2. How do I get pdf files onto the card? I've tried dragging them into the Quick Install window, but since they're not "Palm-compatible" files, they won't drag.

If these seem like simple questions, please bear with me; I'm just a simple guy.

Thanks

I always install apps to the phone itself. Seems to run faster that way. As for getting it on the card? Buy a cheap card reader.

I store it on my 2 GIg card and copy it to my phone when I need it. Its a memory hog(Palmpdf)

But why dont you just use the palm pdj reader from adobe.
and the program installs on your computer, so when you want to transfer pdf's on your palm, you put it through the converter and specify it to be transfered to the card rather than the palms memory.
but you are right, the pdj reader should be installed on the palm instelf, it just faster that way

The PDF reader from Adobe is buggy and is technically not made for Palm OS 5 (even adobe says that you shouldn't use it on any Palm OS 5 device).

PalmPDF is so far the only option that I would recommend to read PDfs on your Palm OS device. DTG v8 has the feature, but it isn't very well written and it still needs to be converted...so I wouldn't recommend it yet.

More than anything, the Adobe reader is a pile of crap. And I like to read in native format - not needing a desktop converter (which, in Adobe's case, tends to make PDF docs even larger than the original doc).

And I haven't had to do any conversion to read PDFs with DTG8 - what do you mean?

I get loads of PDFs via email, and I don't want to carry my laptop everywhere to convert a PDF so I can read it on my Treo.

here is where I got what I use(and what was mentioned already in this thread). Its still in beta, but they update it often. And for free its a great little app. It is big(1876k), therefore I keep it on my mem. card, and copy it to RAM(palm memory) when I need to read a pdf.

Yeah. I do it all of the time. Adobe makes a FREE Palm OS adobe reader.

I run the Adobe Palm software from the internal Palm memory. I store the documents on my SD card.

Adobe says their reader is made for Palm OS5. I run it on my Treo 650. Having said that, I tried to install it to my SD card and it corrupted several of my files and rendered my SD card useless. It took me severak hours to fix it.

Thanks for all the input. I ended up buying a card reader and putting PalmPDF onto my 1 GB card, along with some pdf files (including the users' manual for the Treo650 itself). It works fine.

Thanks again for all the help.

Jerry
