Cingular 2125 unknown number problems...firmware problems.

I am having a bit of a problem with my 2125 phone. I have noticed and dont know if it is a firmware problem but when ever I get a call and asnwer it, if I go to the home screen while the call is active, it says under the "Call in progress: Unknown number". If I go to the call statues option by pressing the right select button, then it says the callers name id (if it is in my contacts saved). The other thing is that if I make the call, after the call has been established, I go to the home screen and it says under the call progress the callers name id and if I go to the cll statues, it says it to. The point is that when recieveing a call and I go to the home screen, it does not show the name under the call in progress. Does anyone have this issue as well. Try it out. Do I have a defective unit. Thanks.

Is this the 5th return for the same phone? Also, does this only happen when you answer a call or does it happen when you make one. I called my voicemail and it showed up fine in both places. I am using the Facade Homescreen.

Mine doesn't have that problem. It says call in progress and the name of the contact shows.

See if you can get someone at Cingular to resend the provisioning info to the phone.

Posted by: Bandit-one1

ok it works that way but now try to recieve a call and then check the home screen (where you have windows and contacts hit keys) and look at the call progress: it will say "unknown". That is ONLY when you recieve a call. If you hit the call statues (right soft key) it will show it there. Does that happen to you guys?

This is for the Cingular 2125 phone.

Well try a different homescreen layout. If it doesn't happen with other homescreen layouts, then the problem is with the homescreen that you are using. If it does happen with other homescreen layouts, then there is something wrong with how the phone executes the call status homescreen plugin. I would try a hard reset in that case.

Posted by: Bandit-one1

Yes it happens to all of the home screens I change it to. Maybee if you may test your phone and recieve a call. Then check both the home screen and the call statues button to see if they concure. Most likely, the home screen will show up under the call statues as unknown number. Please verify that with your phone and see if it as well happens to you.

It doesn't happen with me.

Posted by: Bandit-one1

Wow. That is strange. I just reflashed my phone because of the memory thing and thought it would corect the issue, but nope, it still says unknown through the home screen. Now remember that you have to recieve the call for one to see the issue.

Posted by: Bandit-one1

So can anyone confirm to their phone?

Posted by: Bandit-one1

Anyone? I need the help cause now I am a few days left from returning it and getting another one.

Is this happening with all numbers that call you?

Excellent question. Please answer this Bandit.

Before you go to the home screen Bandit, what does it say? (On the screen as soon as you answer the phone)

My C2125 does not have the problem described, by the way.

Posted by: lopezpm

by the way, I just tried this and it doesn't happen to me.

Posted by: Bandit-one1

well i do not know but only when i recieve calls, on the home screen i am using the defualt windows screen theme, under the carier name that says cingular changes to call in progress: number unavialable. that is what it says when only i recieve calls. When i make the calls, it says the name of the caller there. I tried a reflash and still does not work.n I can see the caller info if i go to the call statues soft button. it shows the time elapsed and the caller number with name. that isthe problem i have.mi do not know if it is a networkthing or my phone. i am in the san francisco area and there are major changes in the network. maybe if i can edit the registry or something. can some one test their phone and recieve a call and check the home screen and see what it says.

I'm guessing you are talking to people in San Fran, right?

Posted by: Bandit-one1

Well agian, i do not knwo if this is a network problem or what. I just have that problem that if anyone out there has the same thing I am facing so I may return the phone is I am with the problem on the phone.

Posted by: lopezpm

Well, Omega(Florida), guapoharry(Arizona), Marianoz(Virginia), and I(Michigan) are not having this problem. I asked you before but I think it got overlooked. Is this your 5th return of the same model phone or are they all different phones? I mean, if it's the 5th return on the 2125 then it's hard to believe that it's a phone problem. But if the returns are all different phones then there is a possibilty that you have a defective unit. By the way, what did Cingular say when you called them and described the problem you are having?

When receiving calls, the OP sees a bad caller ID on the home screen. Then after pressing the right soft key, the call status window shows a correct caller ID.

When I answer the phone, it starts off on the call status screen, not the home screen.

Immediately after answering the phone, which screen do you see?

Hi,

I have the same problem with caller information missing on the homescreen. I too am in the Bay Area, but I can't imagine that function is controlled by anything other than the phone.

No issues here..

Yes there you go. Of course when thew call is answered it goes to the call statues screen. But lets say in the middle of the call I want to go to my calandar or notes, I press the home screen button and under the call in progress section, it says caller unknown only to when I recieve calls. What can this be. It is the 2nd phone I returned. 5 in all from in the store returns. In the store, I returned 3 because the screen flikered. Like if it had a refreash rate problem. So what do you think. Can it be a network problem or is it my phone. Someone from the bay area have this problem? How about everyone else? Please help cause I have 15 days left to return the phone and get a nother one. Thanks.

Posted by: Bandit-one1

Are people not responding due to having the same issue and ignoring it? Please let me know.

Posted by: lunchboxfett

Are you sure that you have caller ID added to your number?

Posted by: Bandit-one1

Yes I do have it.

Beg your pardon here, but I'm confused. What was the answer to this question?

Posted by: Nice Pants

If you read my last post, i have the same problem. But to be honest with you is it really that big of a deal? You could always switch back to the caller view if for some reason you forgot who you were talking to.

Ok, on the Cingular forums you say that as of Jan. 11th you have 3 days to return the phone for this problem. You were advised to just return it because no one else was having the problem. On Jan. 14th you said you were going to return it and get a new one. Now on Jan23rd, you say you have 15 days to return the phone. I am confused. We are trying to help you but it's hard because there are questions that go uanswered. Get your story straight and start answering the questions or we can't help. I'm not being rude or mean, I'm just trying to help but you're making it hard. By the way, this post has had 815 views and only one other person has had a problem. And they aren't really bothered by it. My suggestion would be that if it really bothers you that bad, then get it exchanged and don't leave the store with out a working phone. Make sure you are satisfied before you walk out of the store.

Ok. Just as I thought. I just got out with Cingular and they had a ticket for me. I was told that since the new 3G cards are into effect. The older cards would support the in call option from the network because it has been developed. If one was to put the caller on hold, your phone would register that and let you know that you have been placed on hold. That is one of many examples that I was told. With the new 3G cards, the network has not been able to develope that yet. They are in the process of developing more depth with this feature. In or about next month, we will see some type of improvements. Also, the old sim cards do not have this feature anymore because they are implanting it with the new 3G cards. This is what I thought. So the phone is not the problem. For all you people that have this function working, it is because in your coverage network area, it has been developed. In my area it has not. I guess we can call this case closed then. I expect to have a functional unit. I believed them because with my old chip I did not have the problem but only after a week before upgrading I did. CASE CLOSED.

I just got my Cingular 2125 two hours ago. I DO have this problem, which I don't have with the SMT5600, so I don't think it's a network problem. I think it's a firmware problem.

On the other hand, there are other things that bother me more than this bug.

Posted by: Bandit-one1

Really. I think so to. I past my 30 days but my firend is the main manager. He can exchange it for me up to a year. That is good. If you try to reflash your phone. I did because of the memory issue and still worked bad. There is something in the cab file that does not write in the reg well enough. It is just corrupted. Try to get another .cab file of that same them or home screen you are using from someone else and replace it to your phone. It should work. Let me know what you resolved. I guess I will reopen this case and see if I can come up with a fix also.
