HELP! Need to change ObeyMoto Language to US English on PEBL

Hi,

I was dumb and bought a German issue PEBL U6 from a vendor and didn't realize it until i tried to use voice command and it yelled German at me.

I need some help changing this to US English.

This is what i know so far. I need RSD Lite. I need a language pack from MotoX. Before i try this i have some questions.

The phone language seems to be set to English since all the menus are in english. But under Phone Status>Voice Dial Languages there is only Deutsch 205 listed.

Will any language pack from motox change this Voice Dial Language? Or is this something different? Or does Language Pack mean this Voice Dial Language specifically?

Second, I read in a post that there wasn't yet a US English Voice Dial Pack, only a UK one? Has this changed since T-Mobile now offers the PEBL in the US?

I can help you out. Drop me a PM and I'll get you the files you need. Tell me what type of phone you have, and what language it's running (American English, British English), and I can send you some files to put on your phone. (I have a PEBL.)

I believe those files are personal files that the phone uses as it adjusts to your voice. The LP_0001 files are the OBEYMOTO files, and the vp_0000 files are your personalized adjustments, if I had to guess. When I switched from UK English to US English, I backed up those files and then deleted them when I switched over.

Here's how to go from UK English to US English and get OBEYMOTO working for an American accent on the PEBL:

First, download these two files:

US English/French LP Reflash for Pebl:

US English ObeyMoto Files (put in /c/mobile/vst/):
http://rapidshare.de/files/10970663/VC.zip.html

Once you've got those two, you'll need to get RSD Lite 2.3 - DON'T USE AN EARLIER VERSION! They will fry your PEBL. (2.1 *might* work, but I make no guarantees.)

Use RSD Lite 2.3 to flash with the LP Reflash file (the first one). You will lose all languages on your phone and they will be replaced with US English and French.

Once you've got that part done, just use P2KTools to put the file in the second (zip) file into /c/mobile/vst/ on your phone and reboot it - OBEYMOTO should be up and running on your Pebl, and you won't have to fake a Brit accent.

Hey Jason - I did that with my Pebl earlier, but I left the original ones on it - uk english etc.. is it safe to delete those and just leave the us english on there.. just curious

Do you mean the files in /c/mobile/vst/? Yeah, I deleted everything in that directory before I uploaded the US English voice commands. Worked fine.

It isn't possible to simply load the American language obeymoto files without re-flashing first? I've got the phone all configured and don't want to have to back it up and reconfigure it all just to get American language loaded. right now the phone appears to have an asian language pack on it, obeymoto is in UK English.

You can just load the US English obeymoto files on, and it works pretty good - the only bug is when it asks you to confirm someone's name, and it sounds like it's in some alien language...

naaa, that won't work. guess my fiancee will have to decide how bad she wants US English since it looks like I'd have to re-flash the phone.

It's actually not that bad - it pops up pretty rarely, as the obeymoto is pretty good at understanding you.

the LP-only reflash won't change anything else on the phone... all settings and phonebook entries will remain as are... it just wipes the languages...

you ought to do that... it's how i did my PEBL...

Can someone tell me if RSD lite 2.5 is alright to use when I do this? Should I only be using 2.3 or just dont use anything earlier? Please confirm aas I dont want to screw up my phone. Thanks!

I suggest you only use RSD lite 2.4 or higher for the PEBL.

I get the error "Failed Flashing Process. Unable to retrieve interface handle. (0x4107027)" in the Status column of RSD after attempting the flash. I followed the directions as noted and RSD sees the phone, but I have never flashed anything before. I think I have all the drivers setup properly. I use the Motorola Software Update program to load the drivers. I loaded all the drivers from the common_files/Motorola instead of using the USB Modem driver that comes with Phone Tools.

Is this correct? My Pebl is in italian and I'm hoping removing these extra languages will help the SMS dictionary keep from popping up foreign words as well as fix the voice commands.

Anyone have any suggestions?

go to messages>new message>new short message>menu>entry setup and make sure your entry setup is also set to english.

as far as voice commands, if your language pack is using UK english (personalise instead of personalize) you need/should have the 4 vst files ending in _0003 which are the voice files in the /c/mobile/vst folder

I figured out my problem flashing my phone, the flashing driver was not loaded, I was able to add it and got the phone to flash to US English and add the files for obey moto. Everything works great with the Voice commands now. I love being able to say any name in my address book.

Also thanks for the tips on the text messaging I though I had somehow lost the iTap after my flash because I was only able to manually enter words (no dictionary) but I was able to change it to iTap english using the menu you gave me and now the phone is exactly how I want it!

Thanks so much for posting this information every, it was really a great help to me and I wouldn't be nearly as happy with this phone if I hadn't found it!

alright, tried this, followed the instructions....no OBEYMOTO, only a window looking for names stored in phonebook....EXACTLY which files in the VST ZIP need to go into the VST folder...cause there seems to be more in the ZIP than there were in my VST folder..

the four files with 0001 in the name are the language files. the two with 0000 are believed to be the files the phone uses to train itself to your voice - total of 6.

I backed up and deleted everything that was in my VST folder, then put the entire contents of of the ZIP file in there to replace it. I think I did have to turn off my phone and turn it back on again after all the flashing and copying was done before the obeymoto menu started appearing instead of the "No voice commands recorded" message.

I got my PEBL yesterday in the mail from a dealer and I have UK English. These directions sound fairly simple but I am curious to know how you see these files?

you need to download and install P2k program drivers and then a program such as P2KTools 0.8.6, all available here: http://www.motox.info/showthread.php?t=1297
to flash the language pack you need rsdlite - a warez prgram so you'll need to find it on your own (google helps!)
