Motorola Q

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: nadroba

I've posted this question before with no answers. Does anyone knows a bit about motorola Q. Opinions, Comments. I want to get one ASAP.

Posted by: chuckknight

There has been a lot of discussion about the Motorola Q on this board. What do you want to know about the Q? It was shown at CES, in some form. All reports are that build quality is sufficient, but the jury is still out on software reliability.

Considering Motorola's reputation with regards to smartphones, some of us have pretty low expectations. If they manage to make it just "average," then it'll be a triumph for them.

Posted by: nadroba

Chuckknight: I have always used motorola phones but some time ago I had the need to use a smartphone. So I got a Treo 600 and then my p910a. Here in my country there is no availability of motorola smartphones like mpx, because of my experience using motorola, I wanted to have a motorola smartphone but I couldn't find it. I subscribed to motorola newsletter and they send me the info about the Q in nov'05, but only some specifications, not really features. But as I could understand in your post I'm a lot better using my p910.

More than likely you are better off with your Symbian OS device. If you want a MS smartphone get a SP5m or SP5. Those are great phones and can do a whole lot more than the Q, not only that but HTC actually makes descent smartphones.

Omega, I agree with you on your comments about HTC; however, I believe the MotoQ will be the first Smartphone with a keyboard. In my opinion that is pretty big, as I have always felt that there should be one with keyboard. I've had the MPx 200, MPx 220, SMT 5600, and now the HTC 2125; I have always felt the need for the keyboard. I also have the K-JAM...somehow it is not the same and I only take it out of my office if I know that I will need to enter info.

On a side note, I have been pretty dissapointed with Motorola. First, Moto's marketing strategy of announcing things way too early and then sometimes never even launching is pretty bad. Look at the Treo 700w, it was officially announced months after the MotoQ and it is already available -- who knows when the MotoQ will be available -- perhaps not even Motorola knows. And then Motorola's quality has been hit or miss with anything more complex than just a basic phone. For some reason I still like Moto products, and the Q is really gorgeous in my opinion. I guess time will tell -- I am pretty sure that if the ever launch it in GSM I will definetely be getting one.

Posted by: Omega2008

Motorolas design and engineering problems is to problemsome for me to even consider the Q even if it is the first Smartphone with a keyboard. I am sure other manufactures will make smartphones with a keyboard, heck I rather have a PPC phone anyways so its not a big winner for me.

Posted by: Ishimaru

i'm sick of these damn threads every 3 or 4 days. leave it alone already. or post back in the old thread, geez.

Posted by: Eric5273

I'm guessing that the delay on the Q has to do with Motorola waiting to release it with the WM5 patch that allows for push email. From looking at the device, it's obvious that they are going to try to lure Blackberry users over. It's got the same track wheel and "back" button on the side, and the form factor is very similar. But what good would that be without push email.

Unless there are some major bugs in this device, I will probably get it when it is released for Verizon.

Posted by: lunchboxfett

I believe the patch for MS push email is already available. I have been using it on my 6700.
As for the first smartphone with a keyboard I think the HP ipaq hw6510 has a similar look although it only runs WM2003SE.

I believe that the iPaq hw6510 is not a Smartphone, it is a Pocket PC unit. Even the Treo 700 is not a Smartphone -- even as similar to the MotoQ in its looks.

Posted by: nadroba

Well as I am the responsible of this thread. I want to make some points.

I liked the Q because much of its design is similar to p990, and looks a lot smaller. My p910 is not a small smartphone. I like that has the jog dial, navigation keypad, qwerty keypad, etc. I really didn't know about motorola being so bad doing smartphones. As I told you here where I live there is no availability. At this time de mpx220 is arriving and is not available through any carrier just independent sellers so If I get a Q I will bring it from USA. This is some money to invest that's why I'm asking too much.
Well why am I trying to change my p910 for a Q. I don't know if I am wrong but I found a lot easier to find software based on Windows than Symbian UIQ. Thanks to the people who take a little time to give their opinion.
BTW Dark Jedi an Holishi: Try to search yourself. NO REPLIES EVER. I started a thread like a month ago with this question and guess what no one said anything. So If you don't like the thread simply don't read It and don't bother to post. OK?

Posted by: nadroba

D*mn I really get mad when someone thinks that I don't take the steps to do things.

Posted by: lunchboxfett

This phone is supposed to launch on Verizon first before CIngular gets it. I assume you were looking to get a GSM version to overseas. So you could be waiting until the second half of the year.

Posted by: nadroba

Mmmmmm that's a bit of time my p910 is 1 1/2 year old and is going to need a replacement. But still works fine. Thanks for the info.

Guatemala has GSM with 850 and 1900 MHz networks. The old Comcel has 850 and both Sercom and Telefonica (who I think now owns comcel) have 1900. As the phone is supposed to be coming out as a CDMA nadroba will have to wait until it is lauched in GSM, which I don't think is has even been approved by the FCC, only the CDMA was approved. On top of that, the phone will very likely be locked -- so it might take some additional time to get someone to unlock it.

Thinking in terms of Motorola the intention probably is to be launched in a month -- which in reality means some time towards the end of the second quarter of hopefully this year

Posted by: nadroba

There are three major providers here in Guatemala. Comcel whose GSM division has been named TIGO. Movistar (Telefónica Móviles who bought and made dissappear Bellsouth Guatemala in 2004) the ones that as people say have purchased TIGO. The third one is PCS Digital a subsidiary of TELGUA owned by TELMEX (Teléfonos de México). Tigo uses 850 and the other two use 1900. I have been a costumer of Comcel since 1995 so I've tried every technology (AMPS, TDMA they never used CDMA, and GSM) also I have owned almost every popular model of Motorola (MUC, micro TAC, Star TAC, V3620, Vulcan, V60t, V300, V3). Comcel switched to GSM on august 2004, so I think you understand that I really like motorola phones. The only not Moto phones that I have had are a Samsung STH-A325 because it was the only one with color display available when they still used TDMA and now the p910a. I'll be waiting.

I need verizon evdo.

I read somewhere a while back that when (or maybe if) this phone is released for GSM users, it will support UMTS, is that true?

^^ I definately read the same thing, I think I even read it on Hofo in the PPC forums a while back.

7:53AM Motorola's Q still standing in line - Chicago Suntimes (MOT) 21.16 : The Suntimes reports the much-anticipated Q, a super-thin e-mail device, had been scheduled for an April launch, but the deadline passed. A launch later this quarter might be in the offing. A co website now says the Q is queued up for a first half. The decision falls to Verizon Wireless (VZ), which said it's testing the phone and will not sell it until it thinks the phone is ready. VZ would not give a specific date for release of the phone, which the co designed to take on the successful RIM (RIMM) BlackBerry and Palm (PALM) Treo e-mail phones.

Read yesterday about a joint press conference by Verizon and Motorola to annouce the Q is set for May 22nd.
Called Verizon and of course they know nothing, but they will extend a credit I have that expires May 21st a few more weeks because I am interested in the Q (but they havent heard of it).

Forgive my ignorance guys,
but I thought the Motorola "Q" was running the full Windows Mobile 5 platform (PocketPC).

If not,
can you please explain the difference.

Thanks

so its a win mobile smart phone so no touch screen. It doesn't have wifi either.

So its not really supposed to compete with the Treo and 6700 per se, but still I'd say the XV6700 (ppc6700 on sprint) is still the best as it has everything the treo has plus wifi.

ppl say the treo is better as a phone and has the convenience of the readily accesible keys while yhou have to slide it out with the 6700.

i have a 6700 and have to pick a phone to get my refund for v710 so i think Treo 700p will be good so i have one wm5 device and one palm as i like the calendar and task app better on palm os then wm5.

Posted by: Quatre

plus the Q kind of looks like a calculator. i'm so over it and not into it.

Posted by: focacci

Hey Quarte! We had some correspondance in the V710 forums and I wanted to let you know. (I didnt know this) I only received the price of my new phone that I picked which was $129.00 and not the full amount that I spent on the V710 which was well over $300. I was quite angry at myself for not reading the rules properly. You are enjoying your 6700? I bought that one and didnt enjoy the reception. Are you going to get the "Q"?

Thanks

Unfortunately Verizon has an exclusive on the Q for a few months. We won't be able to get test units until August.

yeah everyone seemed to know that you only got back what you spent on a new phone, so the trick was to get an expensive phone that used up closest to what you paid for v710 without going over if you dont want to add any money though getting an expensive pda phone and going over insures you get your full refund ($339 in my case) and then just add a little money say to get a $399 pda phone.

sorry you didn't know.

I have loved the 6700 including hacking and customizing it. It has wifi which is amazing that none of the treos or Q have. the only drawback of the 6700 is that it is not great for one handedness and some say the treo is better as a phone but i only use it for some free in calling and mostly for data as i have another phone/carrier for the bulk of my voice usage.

I still have to get a new phone with v710 refund credit so i'm probably going to get the Treo 700p.

I dont want the Q as i think it looks like a calculator with a small screen and is too wide even if it is thin. its not a pda and has no touch screen or wifi. it uses windows mobile for smart phone. you can get a flip phone with that os.

no Q for me. plus at $199 with a 2 yr in wont use up my full refund credit of $339+. so i can always get it later and would prob rather it on gsm anyway.

Posted by: baimo

I dont think quatre is going to buy the Q! But I am. I dig it.

Posted by: Swivel

The screen is off-center (to the right). It doesn't even have WiFi. And EVDO prices are outrageous!

It's for some people, but not me.

Posted by: Cord

The guys over at Qusers.com have a new video review up.

Check it out at http://www.qusers.com

Posted by: Quatre

not bad video. I'm liking it a little more. but nothing it does that you cant do better on a xv6700, Treo 700w or even 700p.

If I really dont like my 700p i can return for a Q but i doubt it. Q is cheaper too can always get one later and might rather wait for it on gsm where can i switch phoens with ease by swapping sim card instead of having to call vzw or changing esn online.

the 2 speakers was one nice thing i noticed that the other pda phones dont have. but again i know its not competing with those really but rather the blackberry and the scroll wheel for volume, website page scroll etc. is nice.

one thing i abosolutely do not like is the screen being off center to the right, why didnt' they fill the space and have it centered on teh device with equal spacing on both left and right side.

the screen is better and larger on the 700p (700p is bigger then the 700w even) and i love the portrait and landscape mode of the 6700

This phone doesn't really appeal to me, but I can see how somebody would likeit. I would like to point out that the guys at motorola and verizon must be clinically retarded to delay the release for months and months, and when they finally release their "Blackberry Killer" they leave out push email. This is available on almost every other new windows mobile device. There is no excuse for this.

Posted by: dwest218

Anyone know of the registry edit to rotate my SP5 display to landscape?

Posted by: nadroba

Well, so I started this and now I feel a lot dissapointed because of my great expectations on the Q. So now, I agree with somebody that told me motorola should stay just on PHONES!!!. My p910 is still in good shape so it will continue to do its job until I get something better, for sure not a Moto Q.

Huh? You know Verizon and Cingular use different technologies so the device is not compatible to one another, right?

Really? From what I heard Telus is getting it a few weeks after Verizon's launch.

Posted by: nadroba

The problem here es that the Q is a CDMA phone it could not be used on Cingular. Cingular uses GSM and TDMA.

your post makes it seem like its delayed again now? or did you just mean that like every other phone it didn't come out as soon as they originally said?

My main question now though not neccesarily for this thread is which will come out first for Cingular

1. The Motorola Q

2. The Palm Treo 700 w and p

I guess 2 because I heard they are just waiting till they have their highspeed in place and then are releasing the Treo 700 at least p (palm version) in Oct. i heard. which will prob be delayed till around christmas time.

A gsm version of the Q could come sometime after that but hopefully instead of gsm trying to catch up with cdma they should continue to release phones that cdma does have and make them have to catch up as used to be the case.

Problem is, that it wont be as easy to make a gsm usa version anymore or just adding 850 mhz for cingular, because now america is going to be using a diff form of umts for highspeed data then europe and asia so it will be less worth it to import phones if highspeed data doesnt work.

hopefully though it isn't too hard to take the great phones that europe and asia get years before us and just basically add 850 frequency and put in the type of umts highspeed data that usa uses and leave the rest of the phone the same as the european version but we'll see.

dumb newb question here but I never really understood exactly what push email is. I have a 6700 and think the email client works pretty good. What will push email add to it and where can one get the patch so I can see if I notice a difference myself.

You cant get a patch, the patch is the ROM update when its released for your carrier. I have push on my 6700 on Sprint, and to be honest if they didnt get it when they did I would've dropped the device. The update for me also sped up the device along with better reliability. Also alot of email I get from work is time sensitive and really coudlnt wait for that text message to send.

ok so are you saying that the push email capability which I still dont know what it does or adds on top of normal email use i have no on the xv6700 only comes with the new firmware or something and only the ppc6700 got an update. the xv didn't get any updates yet?

Push email means that as soon as an email shows up on your exchange server it is sent directly to your phone. So instead of your phone checking your inbox every 15 or 30 minutes youget it straight away. It basically turns your machine into a useful version of a blackberry. It is on of the main attractions for business users to use winmo5. I dont know if the update for the 6700 is available yet. but I use it on my sp5 and it is fantastic.

ok thanks, thats mostly what I thought and I get it now.

for a great review from a guy and site that knows pda phones and he uses and loves an sp5.

I am surprised and impressed with the Q that he gave it such a good review and now excited for it. its funny how i scoffed it for being wm for smartphone and no touch screen etc. and now i'm all excited for it, heh.
but i trust this site and its a great review so thats part of the reason. plus im hopefully getting bt stereo headphones with it.

Hey Q users, want to do a HUGE favor for us other Smartphone users?

If you could grab these files from your device (use ActiveSync) and post them / send them to me to post (PM me) that would be VERY much appreciated!

\Windows\sbc.dll

I'm not actually sure if these will be on there, but if you could take a look anyway that would be great.

Thanks in advance!

Hi I want to buy a unlocked Motorola Q and program it to use in Canada on Bell (CDMA). I have done this easily with other Verizon phones using the **772 and unlock code 000000 then entering nam and sid and it works fine. Does anyone know if it is the same process on the Motorola Q phone or if not how do I get into programming. Thx for the assistance

Posted by: lil' is 300

I just replaced my phone with the new Motorola Q, cost me $200 for it. I can't believe people are paying 400+ dollars for this phone on ebay...all I did was walk into the verizon store and picked it up.

This phone is simply freakin awesome. I've never had a PDA style phone and I thought it would be difficult to use...but it's so simple for me and there is a ton of stuff on it.

One question though...I can't seem to play videos (streaming, flash, google vids etc) on the web browser. Maybe I need to upgrade browser or you can't view them in the browser?

Posted by: dwest218

Cant view the videos in the Browser. If the video is streamable then it opens Media Player on its own and begins playback. I dont believe the Google videos are compatible. www.Vongo.com is Microsoft's answer to Mac's Video download or http://www.msnvideodownloads.com/

several other streamable alternatives available

Posted by: dirtdigler

Does the Q play satellite radio streams? Or is there software out there that is compatible with the phone?

Posted by: CormasterMPX220

I think the key problem with the Motorola Q is the "Motorola" part. Enjoy your phones for their life exptancy of around 8 months. After that...well I hope you didn't sign a contract.

Radeon - i checked my Q and dont see the files you have listed within the windows folder. or anywhere for that matter. can anypne else confirm?

I just got my Q on Tuesday. It is a sweet phone but I use a Mac and there doesn't seem to be any software to utilize the phone's capabilities unless you use a PC. I'm sure the Mac modders out there will have some feedback on this.

Has anyone ever used Vongo? It looks pretty cool, can you save and store the movies, or do you have to watch them on the fly? I'd love to be able to download and watch it during a flight.

I've been trying to get Vongo to work and can't. Not only that, but the movie selection on it is pretty awful. Cancelling my trial subscription today.

Posted by: vzwlimitsarebad

I dont know about anyone else, but the Q (I just got it, finally!) seems to have a nasty habit of leaking data! I used it to check my email and visit another website that requires signin, and within 24 hours "the security of both accounts was comprimised" (AKA someone 'hacked' into both accounts). I spoke to some idiot at verizon wireless and they said (after correcting them selves about 6 times) that their networks are "perfectly secure". Well if anyone knows about any kind of data leaks, post here!

You need to sign up for an exchange server service like 4smartphone.net, then use Entourage 2004 on your MAC. Then you can sync all your contacts, calendar email etc over the air with the phone to the MAC.

you can play xm sat radio on it same as other pda phones using xstreamxm.com or minixm.com which are made for mobile devices.

I'm trying to get pandora.com to work but need a flash compatible browser. I never did install/try a diff browser other then pie on my xv6700 and now that I'm using the Q would want to try on that. I know Netfront has flash but last i saw it wasn't compatible with wm5. then someone has mentioned thunderhawk but not sure if it has flash or what if any browser will work with pandora.com streaming music for a wm5 for ppc or smartphone.

I would definatley reccomend the Q, i have been a smartphone user for some time now (since the beginning) and the Q is a great feat of engineering, the qwerty keyboard makes it so manegable to do daily tasks and especially for business purposes it is awesome, if your company does not have Exchange 2003, you can use the VZW push email and it works perfectly. There is now so much software out there in the market for the Q that you can pretty much do anything on it, most of this software is free at the moment also.....The screen is great also, viewing of movies spreadsheets, navigating the web is so easy due to the size of the screen..I would definatley recommend purchasing one...
For more information on some of the software that is out there at the moment visit www.freewebs.com/smartq the site has loads of info and software etc...great site to keep in your favourites if you have a q.

\Windows\sbc.dll

I'm not actually sure if these will be on there, but if you could take a look anyway that would be great.

Thanks in advance!

Neither of these files is on the Verizon version of the Q, in the Windows directory. I couldn't find them elsewhere, either.

Yeah, after reading a couple reviews, I think the Q uses a custom (non-Microsoft) bluetooth stack. I believe that would explain the absence of these files.

Thanks for looking anyway!

Hey, does this phone have a full internet browser like the t-mobile MDA?

is there a version of GS player that works for the Q. I have the GS player for pocket pc phones like the XV6700 but when i pop in mini sd card with the prog on it in the Q the controls seem limited on the Q. maybe because it was installed on a ppc phone with touch screen and have to actually install it on the Q not run off mem card but I have a feeling its an app meant for true pda phone not smartphone with no touch screen.

shame though cus its a free prog and a really great media player that plays .pls files like streaming internet radio .pls files unlike pocket win media player.

Got any other recommended must have progs for the Q? I know there is a program that lets you see what programs you have running and actually close them so you dont have to go into settings and running progs or whatever to close stuff all the time as if you get too many things running in background the Q freezes up and you have to turn off and back on.

Any other tips and tricks etc? do reg edit progs work on the Q and if so what are so good reg edits. There is tons of stuff like this for the XV6700 but I tried to start up a thread like this for the Q and have seen no reg edits, progs, tips and tricks etc. for the Q

I guess the Q user is just diff then the XV6700 true ppc phone user. Most Q using the Q how it comes and not adding or changing anything? I imagine there has to be a few power users of the Q who have used devices like the 6700 and are looking to do similiar hacks, customizations etc.

HEy there,

The Q built in media player will allow you to watch and listen to streaming contect. Also there is an abundance of media players that are free to download for it.

There is a built in taks manager available with the Q already that lets you shut down specific apps..

It truly is a great phone....

Check out www.freewebs.com/smartq for loads of the available software and games for the q
there is also a copy of the user manual which you will find all the standard (included apps) on the phone.

Thanks

joe22539 - Yes, the phone has a full internet browser. IE is built in, and you can d/l Opera for free (14 day trial)

The other user that had questions (can't remember screenname) - Need software? Here's a bunch of titles that I've downloaded for the Motorola Q.

http://www.qusers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=10879#10879

Also, you were asking for tips and hacks. There are tons of registry hacks, homescreen xml hacks, DUN, etc, for the Moto Q here:

Youre right, it uses the widcomm bluetooth stack, which I found out when I tried to run sniper which only supports the microsoft stack right now.

The win media player does not let you play .pls files of internet radio stations which has the url info within the .pls. This is easier for saving internet radio stations from winamp and playing them on the Q. I know the included win media player lets you put in a url but that is a pain. Unless I go and get all the urls for all the inet radio stations I was saving and then put it in each time and i'd need a txt file witht them all on there and the Q doesn't even let you copy and paste so no that wouldn't work. Unless the win media player lets you save urls on media player with streaming content or save it as a bookmark i guess in pie and then it would open the media player. That is an idea as I have to open pie anyway to get GS player to stream the content from the .pls file.

GS player will not install on the Q as it will on the XV6700 and other true ppc/pda phones. I was able to just copy the program file folder over and run the prog from there by clicking the file for the player itself, so no start program and it doesnt' show up as a prog at the top, to go back to it i have to hit file manager and nav to the file. Also the controls are limited as its meant for a touch screen device but there is still ways to adjust volume and stuff but you may just want to have the options set up on another device before copying over the prog file to the Q.

I will look into the saving the urls as bookmarks way and see if that works and let me know.

Also, I put some .wmv video files on my 2gb mini sd and they do not play on the Q. Is there a codec you can get to let it play .wmv and other video file types? it seems the movies you record with the camcorder are .3g2/.3gp which i have short clip sin that format from other phones but I do not feel like converting the .wmv's into .3gp. Shouldn't .wmv (windows media video, or whatev) work on windows media player? even if it is the mobile version.

The built in task manager, yeah I use that and you pretty much have to as nothing shuts down on its own and once you have a few things running in background the whole phone freezes and you have to turn off and back on. Since i use it so much luckily it stays at the top but still all the win mobile phones have this task manager, like i said its neccesity. but its a pain to navigate to usually especially if it werent for the task bar at the top of the Q with most recent progs.

on most pda phones like the 6700 there is apps for showing what progs are running and closing them etc. like Magic Button. will that prog work for the Q. i think its for touch screen, ie win mobile for pocket pc not smartphone. but maybe there is an app like that for smartphone which would be good for the Q?

Has anyone found the correct setting so that your gmail account will push to your Q? Thanks in advance

Posted by: gh0001

hi gurus, this is a very good forum. I am interested in wireless sync (with company calendar, contacts, No email is okay) and this email push thing.

what is the most economical way to do this? do you sign up for VCAST? won't you get charged for additional txt message fee for emails?

thanks a bunch. there is so much information but I am kind of confused.

Yeah,
I kept mine for 30 minutes.

I immediately returned it and went back to the xv6700.

Best wireless deviced ever in my opinion.

Posted by: Quatre

yeah i like the xv6700 better too but want to make use of my Q since i had a credit i had to get a phone with or lose and the Q wit the ht820 headphones was the perfect price point for what my v710 refund credit was while the treo 700p was more money plus i already had a 650 before so it was nothing new while the Q is.

you just have to know the Q is wm for smartphone so like wm lite and not fair to compare to true ppc phone like 6700. if youve learned mobile for ppc like on that it will help you get used to wm smartphone cus it is more limited and no touch sceen.

like any pdaphone you just have to customize it and all and give it a chance. 30 min and of course you wont like it if not used to it.
im not saying i dont have my complaints on it. as i type this iremember i dont love the keyboard. i have medium fingers but have to to type with tipof my fingers which slp off the odd ahped keys and they atre to small to use the pad of your finger without hitting other keys. but one handed operation and size is much better then 6700. but treo is one handed and better keyboard. i bnbet gsm Q keyboard will be better plus might have wifi. oh well

also i would disagree with the guy who said this is a good thread. its ok with all the prog listings but its mostly link to other Q sites and no tips here.

for one the text msg you get from sysadmin after sending a txt and something ppl got rid of the 6700 but havent seen anyone complain or mention here and its annoying plus prob counts as one of your txt msg.

Posted by: big4uk

Great to hear you got a Q in the end.

For all those other posters out there, who are looking to customize thier Q, check out SmartQ! for a heap of homescreens that can be uploaded to the Q. Also ringtones, software, games and much much more.

definatley worth a look.

I looked at the thread on q users.com forums I think that has the list of reg edits and it does show one for the text msg sent msg window or something as they call it. I tried it though and it didn't work. I may have done it wrong or put in wrong place but it was explained using resco reg edit or something ot phm which I was using and prefer as the other one is a pay prog.

thing is I don't mind so much the msg sent alert you get and have to hit ok. what is annoying and I want to get rid of is the actual text msg yu get from system admin sayoing msg delivered. it could very well be using up one of your txt msg allotment.

what is the reg edit to get rid of that using phm reg edit? and is turning phone power off then again considerd a softg reset? if not how the heck do you soft reset on the Q.

to me getting rid of that txt msg from sys admin saying delivered is a priority for many if not 99% of q users so while I know this seems to not be a pecific detailed tread and rather just posts links to other forums and sites I think it would be a good one to post here as its good even for casual user.

another important one off the top of my head would be a copy and paste program for the Q as its one major important thing the Q can't do that other true pda phones like the treo and 6700 can.

Check your email settings. It could be set to check for email automatically. Something is trying to access the internet.

hi, how is Q's battery life? Mine only lasts less than two days. I only had a few short phone calls, did't do anything fancy such as gaming, mp3, sync, etc. Is this normal?

any tips to increase battery life? Any good battery with larger capacity? thanks.

Posted by: joe22359

I would also like to know is the extended battery worth getting? hows the battery life with that?

Hopefully soon someone will make a "Q Tips and Tricks" Thread...I would, but I can barely turn my phone on haha

Hofo seems to for some reason have a lack of Q tips and tricks, reg edits, recommended programs etc.

go to Qusers.com forums and where ever else. the other site has been posted here i think and I'll re post it when i come across again.

In the meantime I may try to post some of the most usefull info from those other places here just to help lazy ppl out that want to stay here and not go to another site which is what I was originaly hoping.

but for now until I and others do best bet is to search qusers.com adn other sites as there is a ton of reg edits etc. just again not talked about on hofo much for some reason.

seems there are many ppl with the Q that are lite users and dont really add or customize anything is part of the reason why.

wow this thread is dead? is there another Q thread or is it just not a phone with users that are active on here and looking to share tips and tricks etc. i guess evertyone just goes to the other forums with more info and activity. you know enough people have this phone

anyway i mostly came on to ask why wap.howardforums.com doesnt work on the Q.

on train on way to NY to viit some friends and im using the moto ht 820 stereo bt wireless head phones to listen and watch videos from my pc @ home using orb (dl'd video performances from bonaroo music festival)

i cant come on here and browse etc whle istening but its going to use more bandwidth using the full site and makes it slower to load the fll hofo sit on here?

there is a whole threap about wap hofo on diff phones cus it used to not work on a lot abd theuy fixed some stuff but it doesnt sem to work on he Q and just loads the regular www site even when i put i put wap

The HowardForums WAP works on my Q. I modified the following Key to get it to work:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Internet Settings

Within that key, there is a "Accept Header" string value. Within that value, I have: application/xhtml+xml, */*

Note: For whatever reason, this forum softwrae is inserting a space in "CurrentVersion". There should be no space.

sweet. nice one. worked for me. was a pain using full site on the Q and slow to load etc. when you only have one bar.

now they just ned to add a wap link in email notification as an option like other forums do otherwise you have to manually go to the thread in wap mode. email link only takes you to the full site.

just applied the reg edit to map buttons for inatant top of page and bottom plus just page up down left and right. much better then hoding down the directional pad to get to the top or bottom of page

what kind of motorola phone is that in the picture in your replies, doesn't look like a razr v3

Posted by: Holishi

^
that's a Moto MAXX my friend.

Posted by: Quatre

yeah motorazr maxx slated for 2nd half 2006 supposedly but 2nd half means 3rd and 4th quarter and 3rd quarter ends the end of Sept. and we prob will be lucky if i comes the end of 06 in Dec.

Its a gsm phone btw so no vzw, though vzw is getting a version of the moto krzr k1 which cing is also getting, but cing is getting the motorazr xx which is like an hsdpa (highspeed data version of the v3i) and the max which is succesor to the v3x which some have imported for use on gsm in america.

but yeah no motorazr xx or maxx for cdma.
