Too many P800 threads, mods?

I don't know, I'm not one for overzealous moderation, but I think that this forum has too many P800 threads and it is really impairing our ability to discuss the P800 and everything relating to it. There are just too many threads, a good amount of them redundant, and a person can only read and reply to so many of them, not to mention only so many threads show on a page.

I counted the threads that I either knew were about the P800 or mentioned P800 in the thread title, and on page one I found 15 (16, now?), on page two 16, page three resulted in 10, 16 threads are on page four, a total of 15 threads were listed on page five, and the 13 on page six were as far as I was going to go. That's crazy, you know most of those are going to get lost!

I want to be able to learn all kinds of stuff about the P800, but an unorganized forum can't be conducive to that or anyone else's desires to investigate the device, however drool-worthy it may be.

Could we have some mods start either commenting in threads that are obviously redundant, or newbies try searching for threads about their topics a little more before posting? Or, if it continues to get worse, can we see some locking when several threads about a particular topic already exist. (i.e. there are MORE than enough "where's the cheapest place to get a p800! look at this p800 price! etc" threads.)

Thanks, HoFo mods.. you guys all rock.

It's just cuz the P800 is so new, it'll just die down in a while. I remember when the whole Ericsson forum was nothing but T68m posts.

Well the P800 is a fairly new phone and expensive, so most of us can't afford it. I mean look at how many S100/105 threads were on the samsung.

Plus its wuts keeping this forum active here

True, Panasonic even got its own forum because of GD87.

It's one of the most anticipated SonyEricsson phone, of course everyone's curious ( me included ).

As for those own it already, I can understand how they have a lot of question for fellow owners, after all it is such a powerrful phone.

I'm sure it wouldn't hurt if some of our privledged P800 users would put together an actual P800 FAQ and made it a sticky... other than that, I don't think there's much anyone can do except say "bad newbie, use the search." The only other idea would be to create a forum for "PDA Phones" or something similar, but even that would be a stretch.

Until SE/// gives us some new information about upcoming releases there really isnt anything else to talk about.

it would be nice if we had a p800 sub thread within the SE thread

@Brad: Thank you so much for finally saying something. I was browsing the forums (I browse a lot, but post rarely) and I was thinking the same thing and even wondered if I should say something. Im glad someone took the initiative!!

@SteveK: I agree completely. There should be a P800 sub-thread, if only for a few months because if they haven't even released a commericial version to any carriers yet, think of how bad this thread will be when a lot more people get one!

All valid points. I agree that the P800 is going to be a lot of what's discussed in here, being a SE product, being not fully released, being somewhat revolutionary, something that there are a lot of questions about... but it drowns out the other stuff, and it leads to redundancy, so I don't know. I think a little organization could help things.

A sub-forum would be nice. The P800 has to be one of the most talked about mobile devices in years, I see it in all the magazines and it's been posted about in just about every non-phone-related forum or newsgroup there is. It's a huge device and discussion is only going to increase once it comes out and starts being marketed.

In anticipation of exactly this problem, I requested a P800 subthread a month or so ago when the first pre-commercial P800s where being purchased and for some reason the MOD didn't do it.

The SE forum has alot more problems than just the P800 posts. Take a look at the big difference between posting in the Nokia forum vs. the SE forum. People are generally not flaming the hell out of each other on the Nokia forum. All the negative posting on the SE forum is the #1 reason they have surpassed Nokia in the total # of posts recently. Thats a fact!
