Blackberry Bluetooth with Toyota Prius

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hi

I just got a prius, and I want to get a new smartphone to work with the Prius' bluetooth system. I'm wondering if any of the Blackberrys are compatable with the system, particularly the 7130e, 7105t, and the 7100t (I like the slim ones). Thanks very much, Toyota has been less than helpful in this quest.

Wirelessly posted (Blackberry 7520.|: BlackBerry7100i/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/103)

As long as the cars Bluetooth is programmed as a "headset" or "handsfree" connection, it should work just fine.

Can you access the addressbook from the dash?

No, that would require data transfer over Bluetooth, which the blackberry can't do....you will have to dial from the phone.

I believe the 8700 can?

The BlackBerry 8700 can definitely pair the address book so long as the car has a "handsfree" profile and I believe it is a function of BlackBerry OS 4.1 or higher. (I have heard of issues with some 7130e models)

If I'm not mistaken, the only type of "data" transfer over BT for any blackberry device at this time is to sync specifically with Desktop Manager (requires handheld os4.1). I could be wrong, as I'm not real familiar with the 8700, but I think RIM (and their customers) would find bluetooth transfer of the contact list a little bit of a problem in terms of security....

I agree
When I had the 8700 I tried everything under the sun, but could not trasfer the phone book to my LX470. Now if my LX were runnjing 4.1?

I have the new 7130e and a 2005 Prius, works great together. As for the address book, if you want to add multiple contacts, just send it via "Outlook Express" with a laptop that has bluetooth. Works just fine.

I can not get the 7130e to work with my 2005 Prius. I see you said it works great together.
First, the car said the Bluetooth connection was "successful" but I could not use the hands free. THEN MY EMPLOYER ACTIVATED MY E-MAIL ON THE Blackberry and now, although the Blackberry says it is a paired device and Bluetooth is active the car says the Bluetooth connection is not sucessful. Any ideas? Thanks

check out blackberryforums . com and do a search on the new firmware for your phone. once you load up the latest (doesn't have to be sprint or verizon, could be other phone providers that you can load firmware from) then go ahead and repair it with your car and try that out. I had to update my firmware first to get it flawless.
