Nokia 7280 Charge Problems / Disassembly?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hi folks - I rarely post here, but always appreciate the tons of info.

I have in front of me a Nokia 7280 that no longer holds a charge. I realize that the Nokia website states that one must take it to an authorized dealer to have the battery swapped.

However... I also see Nokia 7280 battery cells sold on-line, so it sounds like if I can crack it open, I ought to be able to solder some new batteries on it.

Has anyone ever seen Nokia 7280 disassembly instructions on-line?

Thank you for your time,

Holy moly, after an hour or so of searching via google and howardforums, I had convinced myself that a howto did not exist.

I have to admit that while I used:
"Nokia 7280" + "disassemble" | "disassembly" | "reassemble"
as my search string, I did not search fod "dismantle".

*THANK YOU*!!

Mostly for myself, but in hopes that others will benefit...

After removing the battery, I have found that it is a BL-8N. Wow, this battery is super rare, and not sold at too many places. So far, only one store:

$50 here:

10£~30£ here (UK only):
http://www.mobilephonecrazy.co.uk/Nokia_7280.htm

9£ here (UK only):
http://www.mobilephonecrazy.com/mod...0,Batteries.htm

Strange how the prices are so different... I'm assuming the latter two are 3rd party...

Self-update, in hopes that one day it will benefit someone.

I finally got around to looking at this again, and found that while the current from the AC adapter to DC plug was good, and was being transferred to the board correctly, it never makes it to the battery terminals, as those contacts are cold (ie, no juice).

Sounds like the charging circuit might have gotten hosed for whatever reason.

Oh well, time to look for another board (yeah right - time to buy another phone).

This is my second nokia 7280... the first one didn't have any problem however when i bought the second one.... the phone starts to act up. I charged the phone for a whole day and when i turned it on everything is fine, until i start making a call or recieving a call. When someone calls in the phone would display the battery is empty and turns off. And when i turn it back on, the battery bar is full... sigh Do you guys think it might be the battery that is acting up? or its the phone?
